Not gonna lie, Darker than black has not aged well at all. Even read the manga that the author created as a replacement and apology for the poorly received second season of the anime. Though that second manga just makes Hei come off as a lolcow trying to impress his girlfriend the entire time in Shikkoku No Hana.

The only really interesting part of the series was the romance plot between Yin and Hei near the end of the first season and the OVA's. And of course the well choreographed and animated fight scenes. They do try to make the Hell's Gate come off as an unknowable random horror but it comes off more like a half assed chernobyl exclusion zone from stalker. But without any artifacts and just explorers randomly dying and freaking the hell out and never actually taking the time to even scrawl down what they saw that was so bad. Its like Earthgov trying to harness the markers for a more powerful energy source in dead space, but without any actual attempts to do that in DTB.

They also keep rehashing this plot where we are supposed to give a shit about Hei's sister but it just feels really forced in there. Because there is no direct context onto why they were in South America in the first place and the second gate is only ever indirectly named on a map seen briefly. Apparently there was a war or they were mercs there? There's nothing but hei having PTSD attacks over turning some enemy combatant trying to kill him into a makeshift swingset in self defense and his sister deciding this was as good a place as any to just suddenly lose the will to live and die next to a giant mud puddle under a clear night sky.

A slightly off beat request. I love Ghost in the Shell and Innocence. Great films. Masterpieces. Everything. But I'm a little weird in how I enjoy those films. When I watch the original, it has to be the original English dub. That's the version I prefer largely because a few lines are radically different in the Japanese and I just prefer the interpretation that the English translator(s) prepared). Now with Innocence I'm the exact opposite, I need to watch the original in Japanese with subs.

I'm looking for subs for the original GiTS but for the English dub instead of a translation.
Usually the dual audio versions of nyaa.si contain subs for English and Japanese separately.

You know, given how Gundam ages tend to be, it's surprising they let Misato be as old as 29 instead of making her 25 or even 19.

She had to be older so she could be Shinji's mother.
Fraw in '79 and Fa in Zeta were painted a lot like mother figures for the respective MCs despite being the same age as them. Kamille in particular kept trying to make 24-year old careerwomen in Reccoa and Emma mother him. And the less said about Victory, the better.

So there was a crossdressing boy character in Urusei Yatsura, thankfully there wasn't any shenanigans of calling him a she. Was pretty funny that Ataru and Mendo had their dick sense tingling. The two really play well against each other by being different level of pervs.

What I always loved about 80s/90s manga/anime was even though many played with the idea of "gender bending" it was never, ever about being "trans." It was merely a plot device. A major inconvenience or even a downright crisis for the character! Something that had to be overcome. And if they couldn't break the "curse" it was absolutely torturous for them. Ranma 1/2 is a great example of this trope in action. Good Lord, I don't even want to think about how the Zoomies are interpreting this one nowadays.

They either go ~ZOMG TWANS UWU~ or they'll go off and start screaming YWNBAW and derailing threads etc when it's completely unwarranted.

Bruce Jenner destroyed internet fandoms.
