Though I doubt more than two or three people here have been watching it, the Precure sequel ended and overall it was decent but could have been better in many ways. The fanservice, the good kind of fanservice, was great. Just getting to see the characters again, seeing them as adults, seeing Michiru and Kaoru after Toei ignored them for years, was great. The use of all the old music was nice too. And of course Bunbee being the franchise's meme male lead was good.
It's unfortunate that 12 episodes really wasn't long enough. The Yes5 team alone is six girls, and Coco, Nuts, and Syrup are all important characters too. Add Saki and Mai to that and it's just not enough time to really develop them and the story at the same time. Though it was a really nice treat to see Nagisa, Honoka, and Hikari at the end too, it made things feel more like a love letter to the entire first era rather than just Yes5 which is what I thought it was going in. Splash Star strangely enough got seemingly the most love of all, and I was even wondering if Gohyaan was going to return at the end and be revealed as the true villain.
The fighting kind of sucked which is a shame. I was hoping for at least one good fight but it's clear that's not what the focus for this sequel was. The show also had a very current events message and plot to it, very environmentalist. Not like this is new exactly for Precure but it was more directly political. Also despite the mostly uplifting and positive epilogue it still ends on a surprisingly sinister note, or maybe something that's supposed to be a warning.
Either way I'm more excited for the Maho Precure sequel next year which I hope just focuses on the Maho girls so it can have more of a real story.
