meguka is suffering
IMHO that should've ended ages ago. Probably after the original show, maybe Rebellion at most.
A lot of Urobutcher works have cool concept but fails pretty badly when need to expand beyond it. Psycho Pass went to shit, and Madoka had an extremely generic gacha that is invalidated by the show it adapted.

Butcher is one of those authors that seriously needs a "no"-man to counterbalance some of his eccentricities. He reminds me of Tomino in a lot of ways - not surprising since he even stated that Zeta Gundam left the biggest influence in his own style.
Psycho-Pass was really a single-season anime that got too stretched out; not even Tow Ubukata, a seasoned screenwriter behind some of the most enjoyable mecha anime of the 2000s (Fafner, Heroic Age) could make a worthy sequel that took the PP universe anywhere new. It was just a done show.
Same thing with Madoka, though that show had some benefit of not really having a defined ending so the sequels make slightly more sense. Even then, the sequels are a cashgrab, and clearly so.

To be fair, out of all Psycho Pass, he only writes for PP1 and PP movie 2015. Tow Ubukata writes the rest. Not even visual novel Mandatory Happiness is written by Urobuchi. Blame Production IG for what happens to Psycho Pass.

Madoka Gaiden, gacha anime, isn't written by Urobuchi either.

During those times, he works on like Kamen Rider Gaim, Thunderbolt Fantasy (Taiwanese puppetry), CGI movies Godzilla and most recent another CGI mecha anime Obsolete.
Last one is available on youtube because it's an youtube originals, but with only EN audio there and voice acting is bad. Though last episode is like some kind of shit posting between magical girls and mecha.

@Sailor Troon
I agree 100%. I avoid harems as well, but I really enjoy Tenchi Muyo. I watched the ripped Toonami broadcast versions because I knew they would be less fanservicey, and I had a fun time watching them. It's a charming combination of sci-fi, comedy, and romance. All the characters were sympathetic and likeable, and the romance wasn't cringeworthy.
Absolutely. It's funny, because whenever I talk to other Tenchi fans, and I'm asked who I'm rooting for to win the love triangle or who my favorite of the girls are...I really don't know how to answer, because I adore all the female characters in the show. Each character brings such a unique, charming aspect to the comedy, that I literally can't choose a favorite among them. It's physically impossible; I legit didn't think I could like any characters as much as Ryoko and Ayeka, and then Mihoshi turns up, and is instantly loveable. And just when I think the cast has reached max likeability, Kiyone shows up as a regular in Tenchi Universe, and she brings such a wonderful buddy cop dynamic with Mihoshi that it could've been spun off into a show all by itself.

Funnily enough, I thought the tug-of-war between Ayeka and Ryoko would get tired or repetitive after a while, but I never got sick of it. It was always funny, mostly thanks to the glorious dub. I know everyone raves about Petrea Burchard as Ryoko, and rightfully so, but Jennifer Darling as Ayeka left me in stitches whenever she'd dial up her voice into that "bratty panic attack" yammering that she does, and did the emotional bits of the shows and movies really well. She might be my favorite part of the dub.

I also watched the first Tenchi Muyo In Love movie, which managed to be incredibly heartfelt and beautiful as well.
I really enjoy the first Tenchi movie, but I love the final film they did, Tenchi Forever. That film has such a different, ethereal, almost melancholy feel from the rest of the series--much like the first film, but with a stronger existential and psychadelic undertone to the story. The music, the character designs, the finale...it's all sublime. It doesn't have the action-heavy highs of the first film, but it's so intimate and emotional that it works as a curtain call to the characters, and the final shot of the film in front of the lake is perfect.

It's a great send-off, and appropriate, considering Tenchi as a franchise would never really hit the highs of its golden age in the 90's after that.

As for Aa Megami-sama, I plan on watching the Mini-Goddess show sometime because it's short, has no fanservice from what I understand, and focuses more on the goddesses' adventures.
I wouldn't sleep on the original OVA at all. It's held up extremely well, and strangely enough, largely focuses on things like motorcycle racing and "wrong place, wrong time" comedy than anything else. The only real "fanservice" is around the character of Urd, and even then, it's pretty tasteful compared to what we get these days. The dub is also great, especially for Belldandy--you'll gush over instantly the second you hear her singing while she cooks.

Eh, I think El Hazard is better than Tenchi.
I have El-Hazard on my list. Is the dub for that show any good? I tend to lean towards dub for comedies.

So i am not really a weeb but i have been reading some chi no wadachi ( its my first manga ive been reading )

This is why Kamen Rider Gaim is his best work. He had Toei and TV Asahi breathing down his neck so he couldn't go to batshit. KR series also only last a year so he can't continually make it worse and worse.

>Shuzo Oshimi

He luckily understands there's nothing to be gained in pretending to be a woman, but I'm honestly under the impression Blood on the Tracks may be based off his own life, somewhat. It comes off as way too real at times, him being "broken" might've been because of his mother.

EDIT: Oh shit the manga actually ended this weekend. I should get back into it.

To be fair to Tow, Psycho Pass 2 was never supposed to exist; the Movie from 2015 was supposed to be the direct sequel to the original series. As a result, the film all but ignores 2, and Tow couldn't write anything that contradicted the film that was already in development.

While Tow stayed on for every work after the film, the main writer was Makoto Fukami. Makoto co-wrote the first season and the movie with Urobuchi. While Urobuchi didn't return for subsequent works, Fukami returned to co-write the movie trilogy. Come season 3, while Ubukata was in charge of the series composition, Fukami was one of the main scriptwriters.

To be clear, Tenchi Forever is specifically set in the Tenchi Universe canon (as is the first of the three films), so its really more of a great sendoff of that canon specifically (Tenchi Muyo itself continued after Universe ended). It also finally resolves who Tenchi ends up with in that continuity (its Ryoko; in the original OVA continuity, per the creators, Tenchi will eventually marry everyone).

I remember starting to watch it and there was Japanese rapping and breakdancing and too much CGI. I eventually got bored since I eas just waiting for big dark thing to happen. I also stopped Build after the first season since the fights didn't really engage me.

Damn, I'm still looking for something to be like Live Action Garo.

Season 3 of Love Live! SuperStar!!, will be debuting in 2024, but no specific date has been mentioned yet:

The heads probably realized that the recent rush of LL! content this year was too overwhelming, and decided to spread it out.

Actually, Urobuchi is the writer for this movie, having had the script for it even as far back as 2014. Course, he may have gone back and revised it.

What part of this was enjoyable, other than the music? It was such a low-effort show for literal children. Ubukata is a shit-tier writer, who keeps on getting new work regardless of his lack of talent, likely due to industry connections (also the reason why him beating his wife didn't end his career).
Eh. I'm one of those people who thinks less can be more. I like a classic story of "good guy vs bad guy" every once in a while (usually as a break from more complex stuff) and, well, the show was just that. Simple as. Hate on me all you want, I just don't care.
