I don't even get what's up with new Critic being so moralistic nowadays. Back in the old days Doug played him up as a pathetic sociopathic hack and there was little to no morals preached. Him getting on a soapbox every damn time lately feels even more that Critic is just a venue for Doug to rant about his true feelings concerning movies. I mean he's always been, but back in the day he made more of an effort to truly paint his character as an ass.

Because he has to pander to the people who get offended without a moral (Similar to Mr. Enter's obsession with the idea).

I honestly feel like Doug wants to go back to the "moral-less" way he used to make his reviews, yet he's either pressured by the audience, or he forgot how to do it after nearly 5 years of poorly-acted skits.
 
Imagine if one day by luck chance he actually made a review like the old ones: no skits, no 40 minutes of waste, screw morals out the window...His fandom would probably accuse him of being a nazi or something.
 
You know, even with 15 minutes cut out it still a little over 20 minutes long. I mean I thought they were for padding but like the reviews are already way too long, so just why. I mean I know why, but like you can't call them reviews like that that mst3k but like awful and without the charming low budget stylish.

It's even stranger to me, since he also does those "what I really thought" videos, which would be the better time for him to get on his soapbox. I do think in the earlier days at least he was playing an actual character, but now he's only playing the Critic as being a sad hack when it fits a specific joke.

He won't. A while back he made a review of Christmas With the Kranks and the whole thing was framed as the Critic wanting to go back to "the old days." The entire rest of the review was him essentially mocking the old episodes before he rebooted the show, like how he was the only guy voicing and acting out everything and how he frequently used movie clips as jokes.

I mean, regardless of what you think of the Nostalgia Critic, his older episodes are technically better (at least in the sense that you didn't feel like you were losing IQ points). And the Christmas With the Kranks review was him saying, "I'm not going back to that style. I have a whole studio for this now and I don't want it to go to waste."
 
Imagine if they lose the studio, though...Would Doug have to go back to filming in his basement, or would Malcolm and chick have to leave.


EDIT: Who the hell is this bastard? With every video he makes he patronizes his audience and you just feel like wanting to punch him.

If that happens, I'm expecting/dreading a Boogie Nights situation where Malcolm and Tamara live with Doug and make videos in his house.
 
What I find strange about the whole "moralistic" approach is how once upon a time, Doug used to tear films like Ferngully to shreds for being excessively preachy. Or in the case of films like A Troll in Central Park, when there was apparently a moral and it was poorly written, he'd tear that to shreds too. On the other hand, there were reviews like The Pagemaster, where he'd say that he didn't think the moral was necessarily bad, but was poorly executed. But then again, those were all criticisms within the context of the movies.

And to be fair, he wasn't exatlly wrong about those. But it was also a different time- One where, while not conveyed properly or well-written (and often hypocritical on his part). He did raise some legitimate complaints about the stuff he was watching.

Now it's just skits and pandering.

All too obvious choices and more proof this guy is a pussy ass bitch for not being able to handle crude and/or dumb humor of any sort (especially when it's done right, like in C&C's case!).
