I'm watching the Christmas with the Kranks review and it's amazing to see how autistic and salty Doug is with the old reviews. He's outright lying about his old reviews in order to make his new shit look "good". And it's hilarious that him, who complains about "CGI" in all movies, is the first that bitches about his new reviews being better because of the "effects"...
But i mean, if he thinks "good reviews" is him making 40 minutes fan fiction role-play with his buddies...

It's Doug's "New direction". Frankly, he should have just retired completely after either the original NC run (which was already going down the shitter at that point), or Demo Reel. The new reviews are, as you mentioned, fanfic with his actors. And the fact he's not even reviewing actual nostalgic movies anymore also hurt him pretty bad. More so when he started reviewing recent films like Pixels or Mad Max: Fury Road.

Remember when Doug reviewed the AVGN Movie?

He was such a non-biased, professional critic who just so happened to have a cameo in it as well! All of his points are completely valid. I'm so glad James didn't do the same shit with the 3 TGWTG anniversary movies. Just goes to show you James has more dignity.

@MarzGurl @LordKaT when the Amazing Atheist joined TGWTG do you think that was a sign that Michaud and the Walkers were losing it in terms of direction?

I remember. And his bias against James felt stronger than ever. Hell, I'm wholly convinced that he really doesn't like James in real life. And is jealous that his film has higher production values than Doug's "masterpieces" (not that far of a stretch, obviously).
 
Cinemassacre also has fewer people and fewer production costs for their mainstream videos which is amazing considering TGWTG.com was always about "being a movie star" yet they can't get shit like boom mics and proper camera angles? James is one guy and he's immensely better at it than any of the guys at TGWTG. That's just sad.

Big difference is that James isn't a one trick pony and he also has an actual passion for filmmaking, which can go a long way in making up for a lack of technical skill.

Don't have much of an answer. One, never much watched Amazing Atheist. Otherwise, I never much paid attention to "direction" as far as who Channel Awesome picked up was concerned. I think it's always been a matter of promising to just regularly produce content, for the most part.
