That's because Doug Walker is woefully out of his element. I know I said this earlier in this thread, but he really needs to drop the whole "Nostalgia Critic editorial" thing. Just call it Doug's Soapbox instead of trying to placate his reality challenged fanbase with the illusion that they're getting a new video from their beloved Nostalgia Critic.
But if he changes it, it'll upset them, and we can't have that now, can we?

In all seriousness, it'd be better if Doug just dropped these completely. Whether or not he's Critic, he's clearly not capable of grasping any of these subjects he brings up.

He seems to have done that with Pop Quiz Hotshot. I just checked and they haven't released an episode since December (for a total of 11). If he can't be bothered to finish something they received $90k for, I don't see why he should be bothered with these awkward little placeholders.

And yet, he still does this. As you said, if he can't be bothered to do something he raised money for, then he shouldn't be able to botch opinions with a next to nothing budget and call it "Nostalgia Critic".

The next Nostalgia Critic episode will be them mocking their IndieGoGo campaign video.

As for the thing of hobbits/dwarves and Tyrion Lannister, Ii think it's sorta different, since hobbits and LOTR dwarves are supposed to be a fantasy race yet Tyrion cleary has dwarfism (the real deal no fantasy crap). A big part of his character is being a dwarf and how society treats him about it. It just wouldn't be the same casting the role with somebody who isn't a dwarf imo..

Nerds.

Doug's new video: Is White Washing Really Still a Thing?

I mean the answer is yes. Mostly due to studios knowing having a well known (usually white) actor gets more niche shit actually made (see Ghost in the Shell). Petitions will be made, they'll cast one of the 5 Asians in Hollywood now in a minor role and we start over in a few months.

It's fucked up but that's Hollywood. It's been racist and sexist as fuck since it was created. The fact that it took this long to notice is astounding.

These things are ways for him to make quick ad money. Nothing wrong with that. He may have dumb ass opinions or whatever but it'll get watched by the unwashed masses so I can't really fault him for making them.

As for the game show, idk, probably spent the money or some shit. Probably feels no need to finish if nobody holds him accountable.

Now I can't wait for somebody to post photos of the set outside the studio waiting to be picked up by the garbage men. I went to the IndieGoGo page and saw that if they made it, they'll do 40 episodes. I can't possibly imagine people were that broken up when it was "cancelled" after 11.

1: Raise money from fans for project
2: Make said project super shitty so no one will want to see it
3: Profit!

Well. Steps 2 and 3 are interchangeable, but you get the point. It's really the greatest scam in the universe. Even people who donated can absolve their regret by claiming, "At least they tried!"

It's not really racism. It's economics. If Ghost in the Shell, for example, was a 10-20 million dollar movie then you might see an Asian actress in the main role. But in a big 100+ million dollar picture the studios want that assurance that they will get a return and then some on their investment. So, they go with stars or IP's that will get the most number of people interested. Sometimes the IP alone will work such as with Marvel. But in this case, they need a star to get that assurance. And there's simply no Asian actresses that have headlined a movie that has made over 100+ million in the last few years.

The only way that an actor will get cast in a prominent role in one of these big tent pole pictures is to either (A) have headlined at least x number of movies that have made 100+ million or (B) someone high up either a producer, studio head, or the director will personally select a person that they like but this doesn't mean necessarily a staring role but more likely a supporting role.

Here's what Channel Awesome should do if they decided to produce another anniversary movie: instead of making some crossover circle jerk, release a Burden of Dreams-style behind the scenes look at Pop Quiz Hotshot. Hell, start another IndieGoGo campaign to get Werner Herzog to provide narration.

Only if they can suck another 90k out of their dipshit fans lmao. Take a seriously long look at the fucking Hotshit set. More than half of that money clearly went to buying a new car or paying off a house (for either Michaud or the Walker bros). Still cannot believe their fans can't see how utterly fucked over they got, or are in complete denial about it.

CA has always been about $$$ first content second. Whenever Douche bitches about WTFU his main concern is the money he ain't getting as opposed to getting his criticsims out there in public and making sure everyone else can upload stuff without fear of copyright strikes.

Agree that it's more business than anything else. As I said having a real star is how you get niche shit made. The thing is the majority of stars in Hollywood are white so yeah, white washing happens. That said Hollywood has always been racist as fuck so it's a cycle that perpetuates itself.

Bigger question, and more on topic, did really Doug Walker need 15 minutes to say "Yeah dogg, we already knew that"?

I mean it's a business for them at this point. A silly business but a business. Treating it as anything but would be stupid on their part. You can criticize CA for a lot of things but treating it as a job is not one of those things.

Fair enough. My main criticism wasn't directed at the fact that CA is a business, but rather Doug's tone about all the copyright stuff.

Like, for every statement he says regarding how YT is treating its users unfairly by not actively reviewing copyright strikes -- and to be fair to Doug, it does seem to be a major issue in the YT community regardless if whether or not he spearheaded the WTFU hashtag -- he makes five more about how he isn't getting a penny for some of his content.
Like, worry about your videos content first, if it's enjoyable, your fans will find a way to give you sweet cash. Put out an obvious cash grab and people will call you out on your shit.

Yeah I know it's truly his job at this point to make this content, but dude if you're so worried about your livelihood, make NC a hobby as opposed to your bread and butter. Work a few odd jobs here and there, and hope that an employer sees enough value in you to turn a blind eye to your quitting video.

also I just noticed my phones autocorrect changed Dougs name to Douce. Wow.

Edit: He apparently hightailed to Blip once YT took down some of his videos, so he knew the consequences of uploading his sort of content to YT. But now that Blips dead and buried he gives a shit now. So I guess that's why I don't feel too bad for him.

It's how it works now since the Reply Girls crap I think, so now it's based on time watched rather than clicks
Yeah, it's based on audience retention now. That's basically how Pewdiepie was able to exploit the system to become king of YouTube.

No. In fact, why did he even need to bring it up in the first place? I'm legit surprised he didn't notice until now, in fact.
