I respectfully disagree. By ignoring the gender politics he criticised REMAKES in general based on how he feels about the trailer and about the press surrounding it, using some reasonable points.
And I think it's something, whether well intended or not, probably should have been addressed straight up. Agree to disagree.

I do agree with your point about it being a trailer, NOT the full film. However, if the point of a trailer is to make you want to watch the movie, then the Ghostbusters trailer can be seen as a massive failure.
I don't think you could say it's a massive failure quite yet. It didn't appeal to people who were predetermined to hate it (the hardcore nerd types). A group that, from what I've seen, are more likely to be vocal about it than the casual audience. That said most casual movie goers I have heard from have at least some interest in the movie. It may be more from the cast or the brand but interest nevertheless.

I agree that the trailer wasn't the best but I don't feel right saying it failed completely until box office numbers are in. Again might just be an agree to disagree deal.

Obsessed with a guy I only mentioned twice?
I mean it's someone you don't know yet you keep bringing up. Sounds obsessed to me. That and hyperbole, dogg. Pretty autistic to take things so literally.

I wonder how differently people would be reacting had Doug Walker or Chris Bores made this video.
We'd all have a hearty laugh. Being he OG of shitty reviews has it's advantages.

Sorry, I'm afraid that I can't accept this as a debate because we haven't yet called each other spastics or tried to block each other.

All bullshit aside, its all a personal thing really. I see the film as a shameless cash grab with a lame gimmick attached to try and garner interest. Granted, that could apply to many reboots, but this film is the eye of a very autistic hurricane thanks to a perfect storm. I also think that the idea that this is feminist propaganda to be overblown (Again I feel Rolfe was wise to avoid all gender politics, though his comment section sure didn't) and I think that anyone claiming that criticising this film is sexist are also blithering idiots.

In short, Rolfe addressing this was probably a bad idea, but if he wanted to do it then I think he made the best of what would have been a shitty situation no matter what.

I will say this: Rolfe is probably the first nerd who understands the concept of voting with your wallet. Tons and tons of man children bitch about the Transformers movies and the Ninja Turtles movies and they still line up opening weekend.

He'd be called sexist for not liking the movie no matter what reasons he gave.
This may be a personal sperging, but I'm so sick of hearing that argument. Even The AV Club, a website I'm normally indifferent towards, says that all the negative opinions are just from butthurt fanboys, and said that seeing the movie would "spite MRAs". There's a reason I mostly read Vulture instead.

It took till May 2016 for one of these people to just not watch, and it's the one who started it all. Maybe he can influence all the others to stop paying just to hate watch.

I see movies if I think I'm going to enjoy them, not on some assblasted, wacky crusade to somehow piss other people off by watching a movie, because nobody gives a shit.

This. A thousand times this.

Actually it makes sense in a weird, convoluted way. The more people that see it the more successful it will be. The more successful it is the more likely it will be that there will be a sequel. A sequel that will bother the legions of nerds who give too much of a shit about this movie.

It's stupid but I get it. Bothering nerds has it's charms. Makes more sense than the nerds to feel the need to constantly complain about long after most people decided whether they'll see it or not.

But how else are they suppose to voice their grievances in a unscripted rant video that is just as long as the movie they had sat through?

You're the one doing most of the complaining in this thread.

I wonder how differently people would be reacting had Doug Walker or Chris Bores made this video.
The thought of Doug denying himself the chance to slap a half-assed review/skit together & get those easy views/$$ sends me into shock, tbh.

If anything, I could see him claiming he won't review Ghostbusters but then releasing a video on it anyway after generating enough fan outrage/interest. Cause unless my memory's failing me, Doug's already reviewed media after saying he refused to, right?

Yep. But I guess some people just want to have something to bitch about, even if it means helping to fuel the machine they despise.

I think Walker said he wasn't going to feature The Neverending Story 3 in a Nostalgia Critic episode, but that might have just been meant as a joke for the NC character to avoid reviewing it until a later date. I know Linkara did so for a Sonic review, but that was for some sort of milestone episode for fans.

I get the vibe that these guys'll still see it regardless, because what is integrity when dosh can be made off of dipshits?

As for the Ghostbusters remake: the one thing that popped out at me was the stupid amount of punching and how goddamn lazy it is. I mean not only does it recycle scenes, it recycles characters.

A few months before Transformers 3 came out, I was hanging out with some friends and they started talking about how Michael Bay raped their childhood with those first two movies, as opposed to making a thoughtful, nuanced movie about cars that turn into robots. I asked everyone there if they had seen both of the earlier movies in theaters. All had, some more than once. I asked if they had the DVD/Blu Ray of the movies. Again, they did. One had a limited edition version that came with a toy that cost them a bit extra. They didn't quite understand me when I told them Michael Bay might not be the problem.

With Borse, people wouldn't give two fucks. Considering how irrelivant he is and all.

With Doug, I get the feeling the outburst with James would be multiplied by infinity.

That usually a reason why these people torture themselves with this sort of thing. Though sometimes, their opinions can radically change too. It depends on the person.

Slightly off the Ghostbusters 2016 topic, I noticed that Patton Oswalt tweeted that he was a Cinemassacre fan. Dunno if he's exactly an A-lister, but is the first time a true and honest celebrity has noticed an Internet celeb?

Neither of these count as the A-list, but:

Roger Ebert once tweeted that the Nostalgia Critic Siskel and Ebert tribute was "the best, funniest video about Siskel and Ebert I've ever seen". Doug apparently printed and framed the tweet.

Also, a few people Todd in the Shadows has covered have seen and talked to him about his work, including Deee-lite and EMF. A fan also told him Mike Posner saw his "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" review but I don't think they provided the evidence. Todd tweeted about these 'celeb encounters' semi-recently but I can't be damned to search his profile for it (too many dogs).

Ah. That explains why Doug thinks he's a cinematic mastermind, but to be fair I'd frame that shit too. That, or Ebert was a lot easier to amuse than he looked.

Don't know anything about Deee-lite (glanced at Wikipedia, they had six No. 1 hits then fell off), but kudos to him on getting in touch with EMF (read: the band that sang “Unbelievable”) and maybe Posner.

Bores got a bit of flak about two years ago when he tweeted that news of an all-female Ghostbusters reboot made him want to commit suicide.

Quite a few animation industry professionals know about/have collaborated with Doug. For started writer Paul Dini tweeted that he liked Doug's videos on the Batman cartoon. A handful of Animaniacs writers/producers even did a three-part interview with Doug. Rob Paulsen & Maurice LaMarche reprised their roles as Pinky & the Brain in an NC video. Doug did a pretty good interview with Don Bluth and his directing partner Gary Goldman. And other notable voiceover actors have popped up in Doug's videos, especially the ones filmed at conventions.

I've also heard the Bruce Campbell gave props to a video ERod did on him, but I don't know the full details.

And Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman has been in a few Cinemassacre productions. I'd like to consider Lloyd a fairly notable showbiz figure.
