How the fuck does he not save for 18 hours? That goes against everything I stand for in regards to photoshop (or whatever program he uses) and it's his fault for not saving the damn thing, I feel absolutely no pity.

It's gotta be a Mario Maker thing, never used a Wii U or Mario Marker but does the whole system shit the bed if it loses net access for a second? Or maybe Mario Maker has terrible error handling and if it loses net while uploading just trashes the whole level?
Even the online authorised version of Photoshop doesn't give you a message or quit when net cuts out, it can run for a few days without net.
I don't really think he has an career focused ulterior motive, I just think he wants to be in the GG inner circle because more women will acknowledge him, tweet to him when he's being bullied or feeling down also the extra bullying will help justify him not working and his own failures more. He's looking for an emotional connection in lieu of friends and desperate to belong somewhere.
The reason why I think he focuses on Bri specifically are:
- She's pretty dumb, doesn't focus on academic feminism which would make Dobson feel stupid not being able to keep up. They're about the same level, could get angry about skinny game women in revealing clothes, tweet #blacklivesmatter together but never really deal with the icky yucky acid attacks and women as property of the middle east because those are adult issues and he's too fragile to deal with them.
- Active on Twitter and nice to white CIS dudebros if they happen to be in the Mac tech circles or beneficial to her.
- She actually plays video games and more specifically Wii U a lot.
- She's not as attractive or important as Anita so isn't intimidating
- Other major GG women are all super caustic, can you imagine Dobson trying to have a conversation with Harper (I know he's into inflation, but he still has his limits) or Butts? He's way too timid.

Internet and cable, yes. Quite possibly the worst internet provider in the country--they've gotten awards for being so awful. I'm thinking he must be talking about one of his Mario levels because I don't know of any programs for art that require you to be online to use. There are a couple of mobile apps like Draw Something that do. Perhaps he was uploading some huge file and he got disconnected?

Now let's question what absolutely moronic thing he was doing that both required the full power of his computer, 18+ hours of uninterrupted Internet connection, and all work is lost of there a slight error with the Internet.
He has two goals of trying to get in with aGG. He has a femsom fetish. And someone like Wu could give it to him. His other goal is a troll shield. He's looking for some group to protect him, tell him he isn't a terrible artist/person.

It is also possible, that the has a shoddy connection, and he was uploading something big. Like a video or a picture archive. Although in this case "work" equals "staring at a progress bar for 18 hours".

Didn't that korra wedding speech get a better recording at a convention? Maybe he's re-cut his video to match it and he's spent 18 hours uploading an uncompressed version of it to YouTube and doesn't want to touch his computer while he does.
Just find it strange he would do it out of the blue without hyping it up all week for extra asspats

Whaaaa....?! I've never heard of any situation where failure to upload a file causes the file itself to be lost. I don't believe he had been uploading anything for 18 hours, this must refer to how long he had been working on the file perhaps? But even then, it makes no sense, does this mean that he didn't save the file even once or that he didn't save multiple version of the file as a safety measure to prevent this?
This does not sound like any computer program I know, now I'm curious as to the nature of the file he lost.

As others have pointed out, art programs like Photoshop doesn't rely on internet connection. Hell, PS6 even has an autosave feature that you can set every 5 mins or so. I would understand if it was a power outage, because I've had some unfortunate experiences with those and it even has corrupted my files before. Or sometimes the program just crashes. Still, by now every artist who uses any digital program should know to save every five fucking minutes because of instances like that.
