That’s what I thought. And I don’t think he’s inline for caning. IIRC he violated fairly minor laws and was facing a max of like ten years when he fled. When he got to the US everyone hyped it up as saving a free speech warrior from prison and torture but I don’t that was entirely true. However, given the fact that he’s come to the US and fucked up so epically maybe they will actually subject him to some caning now, just for talking so much shit about Singapore and their leaders.
They should also have limited VIP tickets, where people get to cane him themselves.

The minimal amount of looking into this that I did suggests they actually have a double jeopardy provision that would preclude punishing someone for the same crime he had already been punished for (unlike the United States where you can be punished both by a state and the feds under what is called the "separate sovereigns doctrine").
