It looks good. American Dad will always be the superior MacFarlane-verse show to me, it’s just good fun.
When it does get political, which isn’t bad by default but can go south, it’s way better than most shows, animated or not.

New season looks fun with a nice amount of callbacks.

Especially better than Family Guy's political sperging. Even the Cleveland Show is still way better than most of new Family Guy.

Sorry @TVBForever but the latest episodes have honestly kind of sucked and border on FG levels at this point. The very latest where Stan literally has to fix a shingle and Roger literally just searched for an apple in the sewer just made me scratch my head in confusion rather than amusement. The Grounch episode also had promise but just felt tired ultimately like they were just running out of ideas. I think it may be time to wrap the series up soon and I wonder how they’ll do it

I still find it weird that nu-Family Guy is starting to become too much like nu-American Dad while American Dad is almost bordering on Family Guy territory.

So I found this video detailing Jeff Fischer as a character and the whole story arc of him being sent to space and such

And now, a party for the Unincludeds

For best surreal American Dad episode I think it’s a pretty close call between Enter Stanman, Rabbit Ears and Gold Top Nuts. But I’d probably go with Rabbit Ears.

We’ve been expecting you, nighthawks.

American Dad got really good from around season 6, there’s a handful of decent early episodes but when they fleshed out the characters and dropped the politics it got better and better. The whole hippy daughter, nerd son, Conservative dad, drunk alien and housewife thing feels kinda weird and off after getting used to the three dimensional characters they do on to become.

Rabbit Ears was legitimately some of the best TV I’d seen in years when it aired. It was like “oh yeah, this is why people used to have cable.”

American Dad is the rare classic that started out pretty poor, and just keeps getting more and more solid.

Every episode of season 17 that I watch significantly diminishes any sympathy that I have for the striking writers.

Around the same time that American Dad was flooded with new useless characters - Billy, whatever that thing is called that fell out of Roger's arse, etc - the core characters became less well-defined. It sometimes feels as though the writers are churning out dialogue and then portioning it out at random. The show was also very good at layering jokes within jokes. In recent seasons, what passes for humour amounts to someone saying something that is barely funny, and then the family acting like they are in the audience of Jerry Springer for the next couple of minutes.

I consider myself a moderate individual, who is capable of putting things in proportion, but in this case I think that daily upside-down crucifixions in the writers room would greatly improve matters.

The last episode I enjoyed was Rabbit Ears and that had the air of a script that was rejected elsewhere and then repurposed for the show.

The TBS era is a mixed bag for sure, but try to watch Gold Top Nuts. It's such a great episode. I'd say with other TBS era episodes like Gold Top Nuts, Shell Game, Dancin'-a With My Cell, Enter Stanman or Rabbit Ears are still among some of my favorite episodes.

You know, I still hold this to being one of the best moments in western animation.
Everything was so well done and the fucking song is just so good.
