Roger could have a spinoff show where we see what he was up to before meeting the Smiths.

But here's the thing. Without Roger, there is no American Dad. He makes almost the entire show. If anyone should have a spinoff, it should be Hayley and Jeff.Roger could have a spinoff show where we see what he was up to before meeting the Smiths.
a prequel spin-off doesn't mean roger won't be there for the main series thoBut here's the thing. Without Roger, there is no American Dad. He makes almost the entire show. If anyone should have a spinoff, it should be Hayley and Jeff.
And that Steve would be the big dog again.Roger has so many personas he can be in both shows.
And he can be in the other, other spinoff where he and Steve go to an all girls school.
Ruff ruff! And that Steve would be the big dog again.
Sometimes they make little hints of current events, like the Railroaded episode, but they're not as cringe nor as face value as South Park, Family Guy, Robot Chicken or Futurama. I'd say the earlier episodes of American Dad had mostly focused more of current events jokes (which was during the W. Bush Administration), but had dropped all of that by 2010 or so, but still stuck with Stan being a CIA agent with the family's wacky shenanigans, as well as Roger's personas.I’m genuinely surprised at how little this show has to do with actual current-events bullshit once you get through the first few seasons, though that could obviously change back in the more recent seasons I haven’t seen yet. Been using it as background viewing lately, and unlike something like Family Guy which got unwatchably bad incredibly fast, it’s been pretty comfy.
Yeah, about that time the writers realized that keeping the show with current events kind of limited them AND found out that Roger can basically become any guest actor they want at any time. Instead of cutaways like family guys AD writers embraced the craziness of the world they had created. Stan being in the CIA give's them a ton of room to have him travel anywhere, crazy shit because of the CIA labs, pretty much anything while still making just enough sense.Sometimes they make little hints of current events, like the Railroaded episode, but they're not as cringe nor as face value as South Park, Family Guy, Robot Chicken or Futurama. It's funny, because when Family Guy got cancelled for good on Fox, American Dad was originally set to be its replacement, even being way too similar to Family Guy to a T with cutaway gags and all. But by the time Family Guy went back on the air, the writers and animators decided to make American Dad way more original and be its own thing.Yeah, about that time the writers realized that keeping the show with current events kind of limited them AND found out that Roger can basically become any guest actor they want at any time. The best is that the whole process happened organically. Like if you watch a season 2 vs season 13 it pretty jarring but watching them in order and the flow all makes sense. It's funny, because when Family Guy got cancelled for good on Fox, American Dad was originally set to be its replacement, even being way too similar to Family Guy to a T with cutaway gags and all. The CIA stuff, Roger's personas, Steve and his friends, etc. are amazing stuff and I'm glad the writers are having a lot of fun here. It's even comparable to King of the Hill and early-Futurama as oppose to Family Guy.
That's because Season 1 was well focused on the politics (mainly the W. Bush Administration at the time), but by Season 2 to 6, they focus more on the every day family life and the political jokes have become sorta less and less relevant to the writers, being more of a mock towards American society (as well as Stan and his everyday life at the CIA and Roger's series of personas) than politics. The best is that the whole process happened organically. South Park and Robot Chicken had, respectively, declined quality by the 2010s while Aqua Teen, Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill remained consistent with quality throughout their respective runs. American Dad, however, still remains consistent with quality. What's crazy is how they've keep the quality so high for this long. Simpsons fell off long ago around their 8th season, Family Guy and Futurama started declining when they got revived, and Bob's Burgers has become pretty middling. South Park is the only long running animated show I can think of that hasn't had a major decline, but even that has had some notable weak points. Can't say the same about AD.
Oh yes those three shows did stay consistently good. None of them were on nearly as long as AD has been though.South Park and Robot Chicken had, respectively, declined quality by the 2010s while Aqua Teen, Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill remained consistent with quality throughout their respective runs. I'd argue that other good animated shows like Drawn Together, Metalocalypse, Superjail and The Boondocks fell through by the very end of their respective run. A lot of people seem to forget that American Dad still manages to be very consistent with quality for years, and no other animated sitcom would ever come close.Oh yes those three shows did stay consistently good.
