CTs have quite a large bore. I've seen 500 pounders scanned before (obviously the bariatric models with a gantry that has a higher weight limit). GE and Toshiba have models with 650 pound limits. Unfortunately, she needs an MRI and a PET scan and that's where she runs in to trouble. She is far, far too wide to fit in those machines, and of course those are the ones she needs desperately.
Back during the woe-is-me-cancer thing, I went over to the UK imaging site and looked up their machines, and they didn't list any bariatric models. I seem to recall it was about 3.5 feet at the max for any of them, but that's hazy and I'm too lazy right now to go look at it again. Point is: she probably (according to her) had a CT at that time. Now? No fucking way she'd fit, even to have another CT. Does she care? Nope.
