If I had to guess, I would say this is the exact problem. She was already morbidly obese by her late teens, just as her sense of self was taking form. Imagine waking up to a body that’s already wrecked.

The road in front of her, should she choose to lose weight rather than throw her hands up and die, is hard and long. And the worst part is that it’s her fault. She put that food in her mouth. She wrecked her legs. She wrecked her knees. She stretched out her skin so bad that she’ll never look normal. She is the one who has done this to herself. So it’s a lot easier to pretend there is no “this” - there is no problem, and she’s done nothing wrong.

Amber was dealt a shit hand in life, but there’s no reason to continue playing that shit hand when you’re an adult who can help herself.
 
The whole poll thing was so pointless. She was never going to release the video early anyways (it takes sooooo long to edit guys and she's so busy!), she just wanted attention and to create the image that she is so bullied and abused online. She's such a petulant child. I would feel bad for her actual fans cause she treats them like garbage, but they are pretty damn stupid to not see what a terrible person AL is so they kind of deserve it.
 
I beg to differ on shit hand in life.

We don't even know how true her background is, but she was given -every- chance and then some by the system. She actively decided to get to this size, she actively picked to not take advantage of programs to help her.

In America, those who supposedly got the shit hand at birth, often can get the most help. She easily could have been saving the lunch money she got, but she was already cramming two meals into her mouth. She could have gotten scholarships etc, decided to become a deathfat for yt shekels.

Hamber managed to drop out of college, and I suspect it was because it took to much time vs eating 24/7. Her wake up call to change her life will be that brief moment of clarity when her heart stops and then it's over. She'll never take the road that leads to being healthier, because it requires work and to break an addiction she won't even acknowledge.
 
It’s been almost a year since I found this land whale.
She has fallen so low this year:
1) she was walking so say 8,000 steps, and now she can’t even stand for 2 minutes.
2) she use to walk around to vlog much more often, showing us places and the things she bought. Now she sits at home and does videos from her bed.
3) she use to cook more often in her vlogs before, but now she is eating out 24/7

I’m not sure she can get worse, but she will find a way to prove me wrong.
 
Remember how in her latest video, Amberlynn admitted to sleeping sitting up all of 2018 and not setting up an appointment for it? That’s a sign of congestive heart failure too. This heifer is going to die of some perfectly treatable disease because she can’t swallow her pride.

Because in America we have such a bootstraps mentality, which has up sides and down sides, it’s easy to think that people like Amberlynn should be doing far better than she is. Some people rise above terrible childhoods as adults. But for every person who does, there are many more who don’t. Every success story makes us think that if person 1 managed to overcome a bad upbringing, then people 2–10 should be able as well when really we should accept that success in this regard is the exception that proves the rule.

AL was removed from her home for years and aged out of the foster care system. She had a lot of resources available to her but much of those resources were spent to undo the harm done to her before the state took over. Only extraordinary cases of abuse and neglect result in such removals and no other family members stepped in. So we don’t really have to know the details - her time in foster care shows horrible shit went down at the hands of her parents.

AL stalled out at a young age - she gorges and shops because that is how she soothes herself because no one took the time to raise her during the time when most kids move on from feeling the only form of control or comfort they have comes from food. To think that such a human being would have been capable of having the planning skills necessary to save extra lunch money in grade school rather than cram it down her mouth in the form of generally gross school lunches is really optimistic. She was a kid. She’s chosen to remain infantile as an adult but she’s in good company. The vast majority of people who are raised in foster care after being taken from their druggie parents end up like AL. All that differs is where they got stunted in their development and their maladaptive coping mechanisms. And I would wager none of them had the home training prior to being wards of the state to know how to save money and how to care for themselves in a positive way.

It’s one thing to expect her to grow up and save her own life now, though she s still stalled out. It’s something else to genuinely think that she would have flourished so well in foster care after a childhood of at least severe neglect that she should have saved her extra lunch money against a future rainy day.

While you're right about people in general, I think most of us have little or no sympathy for her because of her decisions now as an adult. She supposedly has plenty of money, has all the time in the world, has a girlfriend that's along for the ride and willing to do apparently whatever Amber wants, she acknowledges several serious issues and has been told/warned about several others... And she does nothing but shit on people.

It's one thing if you don't know you have problems, or you know but you can't afford help. Neither of those apply to her. She could at least try to improve her life but she'd rather cling to being a victim. That's why I can't stand her.

We all have problems, y'know? A lot of us probably dealt with abuse or addiction or mental illness. They're all absurdly common. Most people, in my experience, at least make an effort to have a better life as adults.

Of course it doesn't give her that right but I wasn't talking about her being a shit girlfriend or a shit pet owner. I was discussing how it may be somewhat irrational to have expected AL to have immediately recovered enough in foster care to have the presence of mind and capability of saving money or taking full advantage of resources made available to her.

My comment was not an exoneration of who she is now. We can all agree her life is a shit show and she has some resources now to correct it. But do you really think that it's absurdly common to be born to two addicts who have both gone to prison at some point, suffer neglect or abuse so badly you are removed from the home permanently, with none of your extended family willing or able to take care of you? Mental illness, abuse and addiction themselves may be common but Amber's specific set of circumstances are not common. They were pretty extreme and even the brightest, most self-aware person will have trouble having a normal life, even with therapy, after such an upbringing.

And while people who have terrible starts can have better lives, that is a notion that is relative. From AL's perspective, she is leading a better life than her parents. She overshops and gorges daily but she's not strung out on drugs or alcohol. She's a lesbian who is too fat to get pregnant but she also can say she hasn't had any children whom she later lost custody of. Her friends are not addicts, she technically has a job and owns a car, and she can also say she supports her girlfriend financially. We can see things as they are - she's an addict in her own right, she neglects her pets and runs roughshod over people, her "friends" all seem to dislike her, she puts in little effort in her videos, her car is begging for the merciful release of death and she encouraged Becky to quit her job so she could have someone to take care of her. But by the metrics of the childhood that very directly led to her maladaptive coping mechanisms - she was over 200 pounds by age 10 so her eating issues started when she was very, very young - she's doing better than her parents. With that particular mindset, does she genuinely understand how fucked she is? I still don't think she fully understands how sick she is and how bad things are about to get for her.

Admitting that most people who suffer the sort of extremity Amber did as a kid have trouble living normal lives doesn't give Amber a free pass to behave without honor or self-control. If we find out that a man who beats his family was raised by a father who beat him, we may understand how he came to engage in such behaviors, but we still condemn his actions and hold him accountable. AL needs to engage in some hard self-work and she needs to do it asap, but it's irrational to expect her to have been able to engage in long term planning in foster care before she even made it to high school.

ETA: Just to be clear - I don't have a lot of sympathy for Amber, and am not recommending that anyone should. Once a person makes a false rape accusation, it's hard to cut them any future slack.
