I think the reason why she wants to control the property is that she can't be kick out of it. Amber is absolutely scared of abandonment and this is part of it. This is the reason why she wants so much to get married, not for love, but to keep her mate. As far as decoration, she basically has no taste, and will accept anything her girlfriend will put up. This what happened with Jade.
Um, yeah, I'm sure that's a big part of it, but it's even more than that. It's the all around level of control she has to have over people. Like the whole timer incident.
In the Krystle era, Amber was buying massive amounts of shit. Hundreds of tacky pot-metal necklaces, crappy scarves, hand soaps, dollar store perfumes, etc She completely filled Krystle's bedroom with the crap... then she did a vlog where *they* (read: KRYSTLE) needed to get rid of a bunch of stuff because the room was too cluttered (even though most of the clutter was Amber's shit). Or throwing away Wanda and James' food because it triggered Amber. Or trying to make herself eat stuff that she didn't care for (macha flavoured treats) because no way was Krystle going to have something to herself. Krystle got a 3DS; they had to buy Amber a 3DS. Krystle got a PS Vita; Amber had to get a PS Vita. Krystle wanted a new iPod; Amber bought the new iPod for Krystle, but decided to keep it for herself and give Krystle Amber's old iPod instead. This isn't a "poor Krystle" rant - although I question wtf was wrong with Wanda and James for putting up with that shit from Amber. I'm just saying that you could see the controlling behaviour and attempts at power plays even back then.
These behaviours were present in the Becky era when they lived in the gaycare, but they really escalated when they moved to Lexington and Amber had full financial control without Gary Busey or the retarded muppet watching. Amber decided that Becky wasn't allowed to have any of her possessions anywhere in the apartment except for Becky's mancave ( or the she-shed... or safe-space - I don't care, whatever the fuck she called it). Yes, Becky's sense of style was (and still is) an absolute assault on the senses, but this was supposedly her space, too. She tried to take over the house, but couldn't do it as fully as she wanted to.
There was the nonsense with the bed Becky bought in 2020 where Amber decided after her surgery (and the return period ended) that Amber didn't like it and Becky HAD to sell it and then Amber would buy herself another new bed. Becky could have kept it in her room and instead got rid of that shitty floor mattress they had (which was likely MOLDY from being on the floor for years), but no, Becky needed to keep the old one and sell the fancy one for virtually pennies (a multi-thousand dollar bed sold for like, $200 or something) on FB Marketplace to get rid of it. Amber didn't need the $200; it was about getting rid of the bed that Becky wanted.
Then shortly after that in early 2021, Amber decided that Becky's room needed to be converted into an office and all of her stuff got pushed to the closet. (Yes, this was BEFORE the Becky break up, which REALLY makes me wonder how much Amber was talking to Jade before hte breakup) Then of course after the breakup, Amber moves Jade in right away when Becky was still still living there.
Then with Jade, she couldn't even get away from Amber to work. Jade had her desk in the office, but she couldn't even work in that space in peace. Amber had to go and buy a matching desk and sit beside Jade all day shrieking along to YouTube videos while assembling LEGO kits while Jade worked.
Amber kept redecorating for her new favourite colour and new sense of style that supposedly matched Jade's tastes, but it was all Amber's choice. Everything for Jade was moved to the "office" or the bedroom closet. Jade liked collecting records? Nope, that all gets stashed in a corner of the office - and then Amber suddenly decided that she was going to collect records too and starting taking over that space with her shitty records. Jade got that LEGO Adidas shoe model? In the corner with the record player! Jade eally liked that shoe encyclopedia and wanted to put it out in the living room? Oh HELL NAW! In the office with your ugly LEGO shoe. Then they break up and Amber decides that she needs to start packing 3 months early. So what's the first step? Moving Jade's shit in the corner of the office because that's the ONLY space that the boxes can go - and then she *accidenally* breaks Jade's LEGO model in the process. Then Amber decided that everything they acquired together was AMBER'S because it was HER APARTMENT, and Jade could pick through Amber's sloppy seconds. I'm not saying that Jade gave a fuck about these last two things I mentioned, but they were clearly power moves.
It's not about the wall color, or what teen pop star poster is framed on the wall, or having beige containers with a black label stating what they are supposed to contain, or even how many plastic suck-a-lints, wax melts, or cherry-themed items needed to be crammed in a room. It wasn't about ANY of Amber's decorating ideas or *aesthetics*. It was about making things a particular way that ISN'T the way her partner would like them - and doing it just because she could. I don't think she could have this level of control and power if she moved into Emily's home.
It's not hurrr faaaauuullltt! It's hurr BEE PEE DEE and hurr sEpArAtIon aNxIeTy! It's a diseeeeeeeease!
