It really is a family tracking app. Very likely designed initially to track people with dementia that are still capable of living independently. My neighbours needed to track the elderly man that lives across from me because he didn’t respond to his early morning call. He has early stage dementia, and is usually fine. He just has very occasional times when he can get lost. Of course for this app to work, you’d have to have your phone on you.

I could also see it being used as a safety measure for older children, even adults under certain circumstances where they might become lost/injured eg hikes, dirt bike/quad riding, traversing remote areas etc. I’d imagine it’s a tracking app that can be activated/deactivated by any user. Companies, even places like nursing homes, have used tracking apps for years as safety measures. It’s not always about control, but in the case of Amber and Co it is absolutely about control. Guaranteed if they deactivated it for any period of time, they’d be reamed once they were home or in contact again.

Most people’s cars these days have telemetrics that can be tracked. Then there is face recognition cameras. Many people just don’t realise how much of an eye is on us at all times. Watch a season of Hunted, it’s incredibly eye-opening.

Something I noticed about Dakota's Tumblr is she liked to spam selfies of herself in the same pose all the time. I agree with the reasoning for this app, my mom doesn't have dementia but she's generally ill and likes to go for walks for her health without telling anyone where she's going so my siblings have her location in case she can't make it home for whatever reason. The only other reason I can also sort of justify it for dating because online dating is such a thing and it's good for a trusted person to know where you're at when you're meeting some random person from the internet.

What I will never understand and have never understood is this dating culture where you have to know where your significant other is at all times. When the fuck did that become normal? It's insecure at the surface level, it's controlling at a deeper level and in Amber's case, it's definitely both. Paired with the fact that she was timing when she wanted Becky to be home and we KNOW she was watching like a hawk because she has shit all to do, it's just another layer of meat on the shit sandwich that is being in an Amberlynn relationship. What could possibly be the logic in even allowing it, especially given her wife was already tracking her. For dementia, air tag is better. If you lose your phone or it dies, you may not be able to track the person.

ETA: I was referring the person who said life 360 would be good for dementia patients. I worked with that population and some of them had tags on their laces in case they ran away
