Good synopsis Boolean. Amber was saying that it was a female surgeon but it was likely a misdirection. The most probable out of state surgeon was Dr. Proctor in Atlanta who works on the "1000-lb sisters".
Atlanta is at least 6 hours from Lexington. There is no way that she could go to all these appointments that far.
A quick check shows that at least one insurance company (Humana) covers bariatric surgery in Kentucky, but one of the criteria is to have been unsuccessful with medical treatment for obesity. Amber never was in one of these programmes, so she would not qualify.
This is the Modus Operandi of every medical clinics in the world. They do not have time to respond to endless questions to a prospective patient. Unless your name is Lizzo, they will refer you to their website. For someone who uses the medical system extensively, she really does not know much.
I have a feeling that she had hope to be on a TV show like the Statons. If they ever looked at her videos, they would have realise that there no compelling story with her.
In the past, she went to the initial assessment with a new surgeon but never went further because it required her to lose massive amount of weight from the start (a la Dr. Nowzaradan). With this clinic, she liked that she needed to lose only 1 pound a month during the initial phase. I believe she quit because the next phase would require her to lose a lot of weight before surgery. It is not something that she was ready to do.
When Amber was approached to do MSHPL, she wanted to have creative control of her episode. They obviously refused. She would likely ask the same on a new show. I do not see anything compelling in doing a show on her that can't be done on loads of other super morbidly obese people. She is neither special nor famous.
Judging by her reaction to Shaped By The Algorithm, I'm sure she'd only want to be on TV if they framed her story like a documentary on a beloved public figure. Something on par with her idol Rosa Parks. The second they poke fun at her or humiliate her in the case of MSHPL, she's done. Which I kind of think is fair, but it's the sort of thing you deal with if they're dangleen a carrot in front of your face saying they'll pay for WLS as long as you play along.
I just imagined her trying to be serious and they decide to treat her like Vh1 and edit it like Flavor Of Love. Turn it into a copycat of the compilation channels she hates the most. That would be hilarious.
