For goodness sake Amber it’s not fat shaming unless someone actually calls you out for it. Most occasions it’s exasperation, fat people are slow, smelly and take up too much room and it’s annoying to be stuck behind one of them. We just want to get on with our busy days, not be forced into creeping behind some behemoth that has all the time in the world to loiter touching everything in the canned goods section yet will take it as a personal affront if we ask to squeeze through the gap. And don’t get me started on mobility scooters and how impossible it is to pass one of those in your average supermarket. It’s not fat shaming, it’s the same exasperation felt at any large object blocking your route from A to B, minus the body odour.

Different companies absolutely do cover bariatric surgeries in the US with differing requirements. Most require a medically documented weightloss program of only 6 months (some are actually lower at 3 months). The "medically supervised" means signed off by a doctor every month, with any missed appointment meaning participants have to start over. You don't have to fail at weightloss either, in fact most require a certain percentage of weightloss. The whole point of the medically supervised program is that participants are required to prove that they can indeed change the lifestyle that adopted that got them where they are. With patients who have a BMI >40, even insurers accept the cost of surgery is much lower than the ongoing costs of dealing with their co-morbidities. That's why the BMI limits are a definite part of the insurance approval process. They even approve patients whose BMI is only 35+ if they have two existing co-morbidities (diabetes being the big one)

While this is true, it does not make it easier for Amber to get bariatric surgery paid by an insurance company. Amber is known to be non-compliant with doctor suggestions. From past experience with the last bariatric surgeon, she wanted someone that could operate at her present weight, meaning without having to lose weight prior to the surgery. The first surgeon wanted her to lose at least 100 pounds which she dismissed out of hand. Amber is not interested in an aggressive diet of 1,200 calories, nor any psychotherapy.

For her to get an insurance company to pay for the surgery, she would need to obtain health insurance. This would cost her at least $400 a month and still have copay to a maximum $8,550 per year. With other non-covered costs, she would pay at least $15,000 out of pocket for the year.

As someone has suggested, going to Mexico might be her only option to get surgery under her criteria and it is likely cheaper than having it in Lexington even with insurance.

Fat pachyderms like Amber (it's ALWAYS a woman too) have injured people--not medical workers--but people, just trying to shop for groceries. ya know, The last year Amber has talked a lot about reuniting with her family. Her mother stayed with her when she had cancer, she reunited with her long lost brother and she's talking with her dad. Did none of them invite Amber over for thanksgiving, or is she just to fat to travel? Eh, maybe both, kinda sad really

She's too fat to travel. She can't fit on a plane or a bus or a train. The only way she can go anywhere is by car and she doesn't have access to one or a driver anymore. And yeah, Jade went home for Thanksgiving and Amber could not go because to FAT.

I bet Becky’s thankful for not having to wipe a certain 500lb behemoth’s ass after she binges her weight in carbs and sugar. If I was ALR, I can’t think of a single thing to be thankful for. Not just because narc, but because there is literally nothing positive in her life right now, no thanks to her own actions.

I don't know. I can believe it. If she was there wouldn't she say her totally real local girlfriend and her totally real friends all had dinner together, but she didn't film it because privacy or some bs? Jade left NY and moved in with her, in September, before they ever met each other. Seems possible she would want to go home for the holidays and no way would Amber attempt to get on an airplane. Plus doesn't jade have a court date coming up?

Amber made a big show of informing her audience that she was spending Christmas alone in... what, like September or something? I'm not from Burgerland so idk how much of a big deal Thanksgiving is in comparison to Christmas but if neither Wipey or any of her (imaginery) friends give enough fucks to make sure she isn't spending Christmas alone then they're not gonna put themselves out for Thanksgiving either.

Of course this could also all be a load of shite, Wipey spent Thanksgiving with Amber after all, and she's just playing the "strong independent woman who can TOTALLY live by herself" angle for ass pats and views.
 
Amber doesn't realize that no surgeon would perform that surgery w/o insurance. She thinks cash-in-hand for it upfront should be good enough, but it isn't. What if the patient strokes, suffers a heart attack, or other catastrophic event during surgery? (Remember those consent forms?) That means much more hospitalization care aka huge expenses. Her $35k check is a pittance in the face of $200-300k bills. Health insurance is necessary, like people have told her for years.

Most doctors rightfully give her the lose-weight-get-therapy -and-then-we'll talk instructions. Almost none are as blunt as the fresh from India doctor who said incredulously when a woman told him she needed a surgery done, "But you don't have any insurance!" And of course, she got mad.
