I think this explains a lot about Rickie and his relationship to Eric. Sure Eric spends too much money on drag queen merch, but you know what he's not spending money on? Heroin. Are the members of the gaycare the upper crust of Monticello? No wonder AL acts so Bourgeois. It’s because she is literally is there. It’s all starting to make sense.
Want to feel wealthy? Move to America’s poorest towns. If you aren’t addicted to opioids, then you already have a leg up in your neighbor. Forget keeping up with the Jones’. You ARE the jones’...until you get robbed that is.
The county they live in is considered the 99th most at risk for outbreaks of HIV or Hep C as a result of heroin in the entire US, which has slightly over 3000 counties.
Monticello is the 3rd poorest city (defined as a place with >5000 people) in Kentucky.
Here's a sad, sad article that I think sums up the area.
A little boy dies from drinking drain cleaner left over from meth production. There's statutory rape, teen pregnancy, drug use, eviction, a death caused by an ATV, foster care, assault charges, food stamps, truancy, attempted suicide, someone with only an 8th grade education, living in a trailer, and being on disability.
40 year old man finds his grandson sick, takes him to the hospital. The baby had drunk drain cleaner, which is used in making meth. The baby and his parents had been staying in a trailer where people were making meth. The baby's mother Alisha is 14 (she had the baby at 13).
The 40 year old man, Larry, and his ex-wife, Melissa, (they are the parents of the baby's mother) are not great either. Four years after they got married, he came home drunk and hit her when she tried to leave. Later that year after their divorce Melissa's new boyfriend said she jumped out of a car and hit him, and the next year she was convicted of disorderly conduct and 4th degree assault.
Melissa got custody of their two children after their divorce, and reports were received in 1997 and 2002 about her neglecting them--although social workers said she was fine in 2002.
Her son from a previous marriage, whose name was Bobby Shawn, died in an ATV crash at 16. Then her mom died, she struggled with anxiety and depression, and got on disability.
Larry is also on disability, for a bad back, and says his ex was a pill addict before the deaths, but the deaths made her get worse. Melissa could not be reached for comment.
By 2007, both parents had problems with Alisha. She was staying with her dad even though he didn't have custody, and she said she could intimidate him. She missed more than 40 days of school in 06-07, and tested positive for marijuana (note that she was 11).
She started having sex with a 16 year old, a star high school wrestler. This is considered statutory rape in Kentucky. She got pregnant a few months after she turned 12. She and her sister were put into foster care in May of 2007. Social workers said both parents loved their daughters but did nothing to correct their behavior. The baby was born while she was in foster care. In November of 2007 Alisha and her sister were allowed to go back to their mom's house.
Next winter Alisha swallowed anxiolytics because her mom got mad at her for staying with her dad, and her mom made her throw them up. Alisha told the social worker she thought her mother had drug paraphernalia and was selling their food stamps for drugs. But Melissa denied the drug use and a social worker gave them the a ok.
Melissa and her boyfriend got evicted for not paying the rent (they hadn't been paying the water either). She tested positive for drugs in a court ordered test, and gave a diluted sample in another, possible evidence of tampering. The social workers also said she was doing nothing to control her daughter.
By 2009 the utilities at Melissa's house were cut off and they had no food. She, her babydaddy Bryan, and the baby started staying at a trailer outside of town rented by her dad. Her dad said while he helped pay, he mostly stayed across the street at his mother and stepfather's house. He said he didn't know meth was being cooked. But Alisha and Bryan knew, and they said they took him elsewhere when it was being cooked.
Bryan, Alisha's uncle Danny Anderson II, his girlfriend who is inexplicably also named Alisha, and some dude named James were charged with murder. They and Larry and some other guy named Wesley also got charged with controlled substance abused of a child, all but Larry got charges on making meth, and Larry got complicity in meth being made. Alisha the younger pled guilty to manslaughter in juvenile court.
The article then adds in that Melissa is going to rehab, and also, has only an 8th grade education but was finally getting her GED. Note that this woman was born in approximately 1970. Alisha is back in foster care. No word on the sister.
Bryan was acquitted of murder and an alternate charge of second degree manslaughter in 2013, after spending 44 months in jail or on house arrest. I can't find any details on the rest of them.
