A man wanted over alleged child sex offences has been shot dead after stabbing a senior police detective in the beer garden of the Maroubra Junction Hotel in Sydney's south-east.

The were attempting to arrest him as part of an investigation with the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Division when the man attacked the arresting officer.

The 45-year-old cop is in critical condition in hospital but the attacker is stone cold dead.

If the guy really was involved in child abuse, then Australia Day 2018 turned out pretty good :)

Well, I don't think we should be celebrating someone getting murdered without a trial, he could have been innoc-

God bless people doing their civic duty against pedophiles. Now if it were only a law that pedophiles should be shot on sight.

Shame about the cop though. He's a true hero regardless of whether he dies or not.

Stab not shoot. He was viet or something too. Seems they were tracking him down for a few days but he kept fleeing.
They also arrested a shoeless bogan too.

The police officer had surgery overnight but is still critical. I like that in NSW this story is eclipsing the reeeing abos from yesterday :story:.
