Alien: Covenant/Alien Series thoughts.

I watched the final AE episode last night. Simply awful in almost all respects.
Since this thread seems to be cataloging WTF moments from the series, I thought I'd toss in a few more that haven't been included above.
In episode 7 (iirc) dumb and dumber are dragging Arthur's infected body "to the beach" for pick-up by Morrow. Only it's not the beach; they're shown engaging in quite a trek to get to the grotto where one of the Yutani invasion forces un-submerges.
1. Arthur's chest burster cargo is extremely time-sensitive. Why wouldn't Morrow arrange the meet point much closer to the facility?
2. It's implied dumb and dumber had to extensively wade through the ocean to reach the grotto. They put Arthur's body on a raft to assist in this. Why? As noted upthread, just one of them has way more than enough strength to carry him.
3. How did they build the raft? They have no tools or experience for it, and the damn thing is perfect: bamboo neatly cut and ties perfectly arranged.
Badlands looks equally horrendous, most especially Dak's design, although the image of a black teen having to carry a white Karen on his back is hilariously on point.
 
Predator looks fun and assuming they don't go all aliens earth on it, it'll probably be alright.

I mean up until Predator: autism edition came out, it had a better track record then aliens.

I'd love it if I were a grade school girl, like '90s Wednesday. And I'm not knocking that life at all. Just not for me.

Mind you, this one time I was in a comic book store with a friend, and discovered Superman & Batman vs. Aliens & Predator and then held it high like Link holding the triforce, while she facepalmed. Now this is exactly for me. So I'll be the last to knock the Monster High fandom.

I love this yassified xenomorph and her cunty facehugger shoes. The transparent carapace is a nice throwback to the original xeno's visible skull, too. Lowkey might end up actually purchasing this.

Doll sperging ahead:
Monster High has a whole collection of dolls based on cult horror media. They're generally good about the detailing and concept. Much easier to collect than some other doll lines, too. Depending on the doll, ofc. I've noticed the MH collectors gravitating more towards ones like the Hocus Pocus and Corpse Bride dolls. General reaction to the Xeno seems to be that she's gorgeous but "not for them", or that she's too expensive. So if you’re looking to grab one, you'll probably have a decent chance. I could be wrong in my assumption on her popularity, though. The resellers are already trying to list her for $300+, so be wary.

If anyone else is looking to snatch one, Amazon might list her a day early. I've heard rumors that sometimes happens.

I'm sure some do. But they're mainly for adult collectors. Sometimes repainters and custom doll makers will buy them for a particular sculpt or for whatever idea they have. Mattel has been leaning into the fact that a large portion of their customer base is made up of nostalgic millenials and zoomers, and they're smart to do so.

I haven't been keeping up with doll launches lately, as I've been rather busy. But from what I gather, the Xeno has gained a bit of attention outside of the usual MH base. While I think she'll end up more easily obtained than some previous releases, she won't be as easily overlooked as, say....their Squid Games or Lost Boys dolls. She's quite the novelty for some, especially since she looks like if Thierry Mugler collabed with Giger.

Eta: I'll have to retract my assumption on her popularity. More bots and resellers are already jumping on it, and the thing isn’t even released yet. I still don't think it'll be that big of a bloodbath, though. She's expensive, and she's coming after other big releases and in the midst of the BarbiexMonster High collab. Plus she's exclusive to ✨️fang club✨️ members at first.

Eta pt. 2: It's barely been an hour since my last edit, and it suddenly looks dire. She likely won't be available on Amazon--through Mattel's website only. Possibly only the US one. Ever on brand, the Xeno is already causing chaos. I've seen predictions of a barely five minute window to purchase, though I cannot say if that's general public access or club membership. I've not seen hype like this for a long time.

For those of you looking to grab one, I can't lie to your about your chances. But you have my sympathies.

I'm reminded of a joke I made about an Alien Queen going to prom for Monsterhearts, a high school RPG where you play supernatural creatures and horror movie monsters. I called them Braces because I laughed at the idea of both sets of mouths having braces and being in some weird teen drama-romance with horror elements.

It's cursed, but not as cursed as some of the official art. For example the cat woman xeno Giger made was pretty weird too.

I mean, they have the basic spooky creatures but they also have all sorts of things. There's a yeti, a gargoyle...I had a roommate who had one that was a two-headed mermaid. You'd be surprised at the horror IPs, too. Like there's the Grady twins from The Shining, and they have axe-shaped hair pins. Lady Gaga and Rupaul have dolls. So I'm not surprised that the Xeno got a doll.

The level of hype this thing has gotten might be a first in the community, though.

yeah I vaguely recall it was supposedly pushing in MLP's shit and so they did the MLP Girl thing but that's about it

Well not to derail the thread much more, because God knows I could ramble about it all day. So to bring it back to Alien, it's actually really neat seeing more 'girly' merch. Especially when they've clearly put so much thought into it, and it's getting attention outside of the usual collector base.
