I've been following 0% of this trial and have always thought AJ was a ridiculous charlatan, but I just saw a headline that made me do a double take because I couldn't believe he was sentenced to pay almost a billion dollars. This is one of those things that just seems wrong on its face.
I don't care what your thoughts on Alex Jones are, if you actually think a US citizen should have to pay almost a billion dollars as punishment for saying what he said, even if those things are lies, you are undeserving to be an American. For fucks sake they didn't even charge the fuckers who were directly responsible for the financial crisis in 08 that was linked to thousands of suicides with that much. To this day has anyone been charged with lying about WMDs in Iraq which led to a fucking decade of war and thousands of dead US troops and many more Iraqis?
This is a really good fucking point. If the goal is to "make an example" of someone spreading prolific fake news, let's actually have some retribution against the people whose lies actually get people killed or have their lives ruined en masse.
He became an enemy of the state after being at Jan 6th and they have been trying to ruin him since then. Everyone who was at the capitol is on a list of people they want to ruin. This was done to humiliate him and to send a message to the public.
The funny thing is that Alex Jones is on video desperately pleading with people not to go into the Capitol and instead go wait at the designated Trump speech zone, but I'm sure all of the J6 fearmongers just assume he was there inciting people to violence if not actually beating a cop in the face himself.

So appeals will take awhile. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he doesn't have to pay any of that till appeals are done. Also with the way the judge was acting, he might even get lucky and win the appeal.
Even if he doesn't win the appeal, he can still get lucky and only have to pay the equivalent of tree fiddy in 2022 dollars thanks to hyperinflation. Peak Weimar, baby!

Seriously, though, there's no way that fine gets enforced as it is. This is pure showmanship by that Court. IF this were to stand, it would break the record of the greatest fine ever imposed by a US Court on an individual more than 8 times over. There is no fucking chance this decision will hold up.

Just showing up to the capitol is enough for them to want them ruined. In the minds of the left, Alex is a dangerous insurrectionist who needs to be stomped out for the safety of America.

Alex Jones became a Target the moment he recorded their Moloch rituals in Bohemian Grove.

You don't go against Moloch and live.

When did Alex Jones become a figurehead of the right? I used to watch/listen occasionally in the Bush era, and I was quite hard left at the time. Nothing he said then seemed far right to my recollection.

He was anti-government, anti-establishment, anti-globalist like most of the hard left in the late 90's and early 00's. He talked about stuff that my tribe was receptive to, like the Trilateral commission, Skull & Bones Society, and Bilderberg events. Did his content change significantly?

You answered your own question. He became right wing when the left become the pro government side.

There's almost no chance this doesn't get at the very least mitigated in appeals. If it somehow goes through appeals without anything changed I don't think it will exactly send the message the people in charge think it will. Because as I see it the local water filter enthusiast meth head is gonna see this and think there's no point in getting taken in alive when the DEA/FBI/Gay Frogs come knockin.

So how long until each and every one of us gets millions of dollars worth of fines for laughing at retards online?

This right here is what's so fucking dangerous about this kind of trial. Regardless of whether or not he actually is required to pay even a penny is not relevant. What is, however, is its potential negative impact on freedom of speech.

While newspapers that purportedly tell the truth are allegedly protected by this sort of thing, there is no law against printing an untruth. And that is for a reason.

Such a thing would be abused to no end in this manner, even against people who say things that are true.

When you can redefine "misinformation" to be literally anything you don't like, as has been and is being done, you can ruin pretty much anyone you want with impunity.

And yes, I know it's a "civil" suit but that doesn't make it much better from a First Amendment perspective.

Defamation is not free speech.

Yeah you're right but when Nicholas sandman won against CNN you didn't mind. This guy was a mere water filter merchant and is getting financially punished by angry people with in the power network because they don't want a retard mucking up their plans.

And regardless of anyone's evaluation of the value of their kids' lives, Alex Jones did nothing to deprive them of those. This isn't a wrongful death suit.
Agreed while I fault him for initially believing in the sandy hook conspiracy I do think he unfortunately think he's just being made an example of.

Also edit sorry for the double post.
Alex Jones is a fat snake oil salesman that fostered the cancerous growth of millions of retarded conspiracy theorists and permanently damaged any hope for rational discussion in this country. He is also an asshole that stuck to his conspiracy theory knowing it was wrong- even actively encouraging the harassment of grieving parents- because it was profitable.
That being said, he didn't kill the fucking kids. Nearly one billion dollars for just being a malicious retard unreasonable. I'm not shedding any tears for Jones, but it's more proof that the justice system is basically a fucking joke. Imagine if the fucking Sackler family got taken down like this for the opioid epidemic, you know, someone you could actually shake A BILLION DOLLARS out of, and would actually deserve it.
I mean he is a snake oil salesmen that grew out of talking about fun conspiracy theories like the moon landing being fake or Soylent green. What made Alex jones big was the fact corporate media sold their integrity and soul to Washington DC and the DNC and in exchange made guys like Alex Jones who in the sane 90s would have been a conspiracy host crazies listen to on coast to coast.

Now he became mainstream because so many conspiracies he blurted out ended up having more truth. If the legitimate jfk conspiracy was probably real, things like the moon landing being faked and Jimi Hendrix being alive must be the same too.

Remember Alex Jones was one of the people who correctly got the 9/11, cointel pro, as well as big tech is backed by the DNC as well as trans frogs he is telling some real truth. (Think of it as our jfk conspiracy.)

When he rants about pizza gate, fema detention centers, and demonic cults and adrenochrome - he is talking about plausible conspiracies but bullshit ones. (Q Anon is our generation of the moon landing conspiracy.)

Things that are literally insane and probably acts. I accept the Hillary Clinton lizard demon, and these demonic hordes are coming argghhh (if you can't tell this is theatrics and baby that's politics.)

It's just such a farce that I cant take seriously. I'm still half expecting Richard Linklater to come out with his constructed two decade film about a crazy radio personality that becomes one of the most hated people in history. Alex is just played by a dude from Montana name george rexington who based his multidecade performance on Bill hicks.
That all seems far more feasible to me then an overly red supplement salesmen getting charges a billion dollars for his speech in America.

Btw, Linklater sort of backpeddled on why he included Jones for A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life

Alex Jones is an unironic NWO shill. The purpose of this trial isn't for him nor will it actually affect him, it's for everyone else. There's now a legal precedent to financially ruin people for spreading "misinformation", which in the case of society as it is now can be literally anything the government doesn't like.

He's not being charged with saying bad things about le gubberment. Or for shilling his super male vitality.

It was about defaming ordinary citizens for decades after their kids died when he knew the claims were made up. Even retards like Paul Joseph Watson backed off from this kind of stuff because he knew where it was heading.

CNN tried to do the same thing to Nick Sandmann and payed out $275 million for claiming he was a racist. They attempted to ruin his life on claims they knew were false. And at least they didn't do it to him for 10 fucking years. I don't see how this is any different.
