I used to work with one. She bought multiple copies of every DVD and book, listened to the show everyday, and thought the government had launched a satellite to spy on her. She couldn't form opinions on her own, instead waiting to see what Alex says. She wasn't Gail insane, just very very naive.

Anyone else want to talk about these morons?

I've never encountered a real-life Alex Jones follower (that admitted it). This one guy I know used to post links to Infowars but he didn't realize it was Jones' site. :lol: I'll admit his radio show can be entertaining, especially if the only thing else that's on is conservative talk or top 40. The only figure higher on the insanity ladder is David Icke, who even Jones is wary of.
 
The crazy ones are paid DHS trolls, trying to discredit his heroic efforts to expose the globalist/eugenicists/stonecutters in their evil quest to take away the guns and throw all the rednecks into fema camps.

Not to mention cockblock all the Chris'es of the world in their lovequests.

Most of my family on my dads side are Jones fans. They are typical crazies, believing everything he says. My aunt is a survivalist, who spends most I her day hoarding food, buying guns, hating Obama, and being a Internet vigilante. The ironic thing is she is a survivalist, yet is 100 lbs overweight and does nothing to be physically prepared for the apocalypse.
 
I read once somewhere years ago, someone said that most conspiracy theorist psychology boils down to narcissism and magical thinking. Like my co-worker. Of course the government launched a satellite to spy on her, she's just so important. :roll: And making Ron Paul president will instantly solve all of the US's problems. When I tried to explain how much it costs to launch a satellite, and that difficult problems rarely have simple and easy solutions, she became angry and said I would end up in a FEMA concentration camp.

These people have a very Chris-like need to feel superior to others, but refuse to do anything to improve themselves. Alex Jones and others like him offer an easy ego boost by telling his listeners how smart they are, and how the world depends on them to save it from the NWO (or whatever boogeyman he decides is solely responsible for the world's problems today). Best of all, they don't even have to get off the couch to fight the bad guys, they just have to buy all of Alex Jones and his guest's books and movies.

It's also a coping mechanism. They have a hard time handling that shitty things happen in the world so if they can pin it all on one big conspiracy it makes more sense to them. And you're right...it also absolves them of taking any real risk or putting skin in the game by trying to change things for the better by volunteering, or voting, or persuading other people with rational arguments to support Ron Paul, or doing something that makes a damn bit of difference to society, because it's all for naught when the Illuminati controls everything and we're going to go to Mad Max territory soon anyway.

I love reading conspiracy theories, but don't believe them. I do own firearms and would use them to protect my family. We have food and water storage in case of a natural disaster.

My friend's neighbor is a MASSIVE Jones nut. He only drinks distilled water because tap water has fluoride and bottled water has chemicals in the plastic for mind control or to give you cancer or some such shit. When I pointed out that distilled water still comes in plastic jugs he flipped his shit and called me a narrow minded Obama lover. When I pointed out that I'm a conservative libertarian he left for home.

I can't tell you how much I love this story. As for Alex Jones, I think I read about the dude on Gawker once or twice? Never met anybody that loves the dude. Most of my friends are liberal and the conservatives I know (ie Family) are reasonable. Or at least know not to start a fight over differing politics.

i've listened to Alex Jones for years. I don't believe a single word he says, it's just entertaining to see how he's going to spin the latest headline into some sinister plot by the new world order of globalist elites. One thing i've always asked his followers is, if there's really a secret shadow government controlling the world, and they absolutely, positively control everything and are silencing people left and right, then how the hell has Alex Jones not had an "accident" by now? The most common response is that he gives them plausible deniability, but man, you're really doing some mental gymnastics with that one.

so the bottom line as i see it is either:

A.) Basically nothing that Alex Jones says is true, as evidenced by the fact that he's still breathing

B.) Everything Alex Jones says is true, but he is part of the NWO , and is paid to spread disinformation about them, as evidenced by the fact that he's still breathing.
 
I knew of three Alex Jones people at my community college. One was some 35-40 year old, covered in tattoos that liked to do things without thinking (spitting on a car that was double parked, would sometimes drive to college piss drunk, said whatever he was thinking etc.). Another was a paranoid fundie girl that wore dresses that were popular in the south during the 1930's, and had shadows under her eyes who I generally felt uncomfortable around. Then there was some guy who was obviously a little slow and had a "thousand yard stare" all the time.

No one from the left, center, or right side dared talk or mention anything about politics within earshot of them unless you wanted an ear full on how Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Ford, etc. are all puppets or masterminds (depending on the day and/or president) of some conspiracy, how the U.S. will become a police state before the next election, chemical trails, our leaders secretly planning to pledge allegiance to China, end of the world, etc. They consider Ron Paul the savior of the human race for whatever reason (they usually can't give any other than "he'll get us out of all wars", "remove the NWO" and "end the war on drugs"), but his son Rand is evil/brainwashed/a traitor/the devil incarnate that should be either disowned or killed because he doesn't share his father's extreme views on many issues.

Sorry, couldn't resist using an ancient meme for this. One of the people I went to college with is a hardcore Alex Jones fan and I'm about 99.99% sure he has some sort of autism. I tried to get him on the radio at our school and he got fired for reading Mein Kampf on the air.

The funny thing is, they scream 1776 whenever something really pisses them off, though at the same time their favorite revolution brought about the U.S., which to them was always supposedly a secret, evil front that was created for a NWO because George Washington was a member of what was/is the equivalent of a gentleman's club or guild.

Though these are people that believe a guy that accuses even the right-wing leaders and commentators (Glenn Beck, Hannity, O'Rielly, Tea Party, All leaders of the Republican Party) of being plants who secretly answer to the NWO or whatever that have the "secret" job of confusing or distracting the "sheeple" from the truth.
 
If you want to get an idea of why people follow conspiracies, I can tell you when I was a conspiracy guy, I did not see myself as such, since I didn't believe in, Lizard men, and what not. At first glance, to a teenager, Loose Change seems really plausible, and Alex Jones SEEMED to know what he was talking about, until you look at his sources. When I believed 9/11 was a conspiracy, I was a more paranoid person, than I am now, and Alex Jones seemed to have this classic attitude of a "Real American" that was attractive. I stopped believing because at that same time, I was getting into skeptism, and so naturally I became skeptical of my political beliefs as well.
 
Here's the thing about conspiracy believers: they look around and see how fucked up everything is, and let's not kid ourselves, things are fucked to hell right now. They can't come to grips with the fact that our leaders are just incompetent. They hear this guy on the radio and TV ranting about evil corporations and cabals and shadow governments and it appeals to them because they are looking for some big bogeyman to blame. Now EVERYTHING is part of this massive super secret plan to enslave humanity. 9/11, FEMA, the price of gas/milk/cabbage patch dolls, the Olsen Twins, Elvis/Jim Morrison/Jimi Hendrix/Tu Pac dying, my crotch inching today when I woke up, Hurricane Katrina, NASA, little green men...ALL part of an elaborate conspiracy spanning hundreds of years! And these are the only people who see it!
 
Never saw alex jones untill recently, what the guy says might be true rarely, 100% of the time he just over exaggerates while flailing his arms and yelling MUH NEW WURLD ORDER NAZIS

I don't think anyone could pay me to act that crazy... Like, I'm flexible, but even for me, there are some things you just can't say, even if you're faking it.
