There have been studies on the topic. Blacks tend to have longer vocal tracts, and craniofacial differences also effect their tone. Prognathism effectively lengthens the distance between larynx and lips, which effects resonance. Increased nasal cavity volume effects timbre. There are different averages in laryngeal sizes, too... lots of things.

Blacks actually have have high verbal iq relative to their low general iq, which is why many of them can speak quickly and convincingly (muhammad ali, malcolm x etc.)

i'm not sure if i fully buy your theory that black physiology is to blame for the emergence of ebonics wherever you find them though. my instinct says there must be a cognitive aspect too, although i doubt esteemed neuro-linguists chomsky and pinker are ready to take this question on. They're too busy shredding all their photographs they took on jeff's island.

I think it goes without saying though that languages, like culture, are ultimately an expression of the gene, of the group. Socialization types have suggested that china's wildly complex communication system, for example, is the reason its people develop certain intelligences but, as ever, they have it the wrong way round. The intelligence profile of the chinese people (high iq, low creativity) developed that system.

Back to blacks, they seem to be drawn to the razmatazz of language. Clicks, clacks, booyakashas, boom shaka lakas, awoogas etc.
