Can you even be called American Civil Liberties Union anymore when you admit you're going to protect people who aren't even US citizens and call the enforcement of Federal law illegal?

More than a handful of blacks who have come to my office do not even know their own home address (they move often). Many cannot tell me their own spouse's names. Now I know to tell clients ahead of time that they will need this sort of information when they come in. Otherwise, if I ask for someone's address he may look hurt and say, "If I'd known you were going to ask me that I would have come prepared."

Many black men know their children's names but do not know how to spell them. With the proliferation of unusual names among blacks, I can only guess at how they are spelled. One client who told me he couldn't spell his children's names said I would need an encyclopedia to look them up. Many men have admitted to me they are not even sure how to pronounce their children's names. Black woman, on the other hand, often become incensed if you mispronounce the very unusual names they have given their children.

The most unusual name I ever came across was Iisszzttadda. I have never met a person, white or black, who could pronounce it correctly. To my surprise the name is pronounced, "I seize the day." Iisszzttadda had siblings named Raheem, Utopian, Desiorme, Sid-Timothy, Kizzma, and Larilaril. I have occasionally asked clients the reasons for such unusual names, but the most common answer is "I don't know. It just sounded good." This is the answer I got from a mother who named her child Latrine. (See sidebar for actual names of blacks I have encountered in my practice.) I once had a client in my office who did not know his own name. He had been called by his nickname for so long he couldn't remember his given name. This is not as shocking as it sounds. Some black names, like Phe-anjoy or Quithreaun or JyesahJhnai, are so odd, it would be no surprise if they were never used and eventually forgotten.

This is it, exactly. Everyone seems to have illegal immigrant goggles on, but this is apparently about detaining US citizens. The likely cause is the local constabularies being unable to process and everything waiting on ICE to show up or answer a phone/email. Whatever the case, it is completely unacceptable and this is the exact kind of thing the ACLU exists for.

Having an ID is the quickest and easiest way to prove you are who you say you are and that you are a legal resident of the USA. I understand that there's a large portion of Americans that don't have an ID. That isn't my problem, if someone puts off getting one until it's too late the only person at fault is them. Lots of minorities/migrants complain that obtaining an ID is a pain in the ass and is a complicated process, it isn't. It's just that they aren't responsible enough to keep track of shit like birth and immunization records.

No, what I mean by that is, is that since it's not required to carry ID, they can't detain you solely for not having ID.

If the only evidence that they have that you committed a crime is "looking mexican and not having ID", they can't hold you. It'd be an illegal detention.

And that's how exactly it should be. This is the US, not Soviet Russia or Europe. We have rights. The cops can't fuck with you unless they have articulable reasons to believe that you committed a crime.

This is the exact same thing as SJWs trying to peel back other constitutional rights, like freedom of assembly, or free speech.

They can ask you your name (in some states), but once you've done that, they need a concrete reason to hold you.

I'm aware of the border zone thing, but I'm not actually sure what powers that confers upon the authorities. Like, I'm pretty sure most of your usual constitutional protections are still intact in that area, until you actually try to cross border itself. I think the border patrol just sticks to harassing people in certain areas, and their excesses don't really get challenged in court because no one gives a shit about the types of people who live near the land borders.

If the border patrol was fucking around in NYC, I'm sure the limits of their powers would get ironed out in court very quickly.
