I wish Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere got the same treatment with an remaster. I’d love to play a PC port of it.

I fucking love these games so much. I really hope it works with the WinWing FFB base so I have an excuse to buy one and that leads to me finally installing DCS.

Finished all the PS2 games, twice. I think Zero is the best, 4 is the second, and 5 is good, but has some very annoying parts that make it a slog at times and drags it down. I tried getting 6 to run on two different versions of Xenia, but I just get a black screen. Might be because I'm using linux and it doesn't play nice with it.
 
That's unfortunate, 6 is unironically one of my favorites to sit down and play. I really wish they would try to go back to the same scale of missions 6 had.
 
I think I just got it to work. I did another search and it seems to be working as of 2 weeks ago
I downloaded the latest experimental windows build, ran it with protontricks run arbitrary executable - https://github.com/matoking/protontricks

Audio is weird though. It cuts out every now and again and has a sort of echo when it is working. Will check back later.

Edit, and my controller stopped working once it dropped me out of the cutscene. Relaunching and it's not working anymore. :lossmanjack:

6 is an absolute pain in the ass to emulate. I thank Kono-san every day that I still have my Xbox and disc to play it. If you can somehow pick the console up used cheaply then it's by far the least painful option. Great game honestly, the story is fucking terrible for the most part but the gameplay I'd argue is actually the best of the series. Nothing gives me more joy than launching LASMs from my beloved Tornado and murdering Estov*kian subhumans en-masse.
 
Now that I have a gaming PC, I'm getting a flight stick just for AC8.

No kidding, I was able to get it to launch again and played the first 3 missions. Next time I get it to launch successfully I may have to try and beat the game in one sitting lol.
Every ground texture had a quarter taken out with black triangles. Some of the effects looked worse than 4, and shadows were wacky. I do like that it starts you with a decent plane and weapons. The gun seemed very powerful compared to every other title.

I downloaded a Halo 3 ISO and it launched perfectly with no issues. Xenia interface is honestly terrible compared to Dolphin or PCSX2.

Might want to hold off until after it releases. AC7 had some compatibility issues back when it released, I'd expect a similar scenario with 8.

I’ve tried playing AC7 with a stick and HOTAS. I found it doesn’t quite feel right and went back to my gamepad. If you’re going to buy the stick just for Ace Combat, I’m going to recommend you save your money.

If you want to get into more realistic sims like DCS, FS X or IL-2, go for it, it’s a must, but Ace Combat is meant to be played with a normal controller.

IIRC you need to use a special version of the emulator made for just the game.

I've included the emulator and config file here, but if you want to get it straight from the source, along with the DLCs, you'll need to visit a trannycord server, instructions below:


This fixes a lot of the issues you may encounter trying to run the game, but audio in cutscenes is still fucked.

My best hope is that the AC6 decompilation project frees the game from its 360 and makes it playable on PC natively.
