Well, I mean that's sort of the charm of the series. The weird and wacky criminals and side characters, and so on. But I think that's part of what makes Edgeworth a good protagonist, it makes him the straight man in a silly world.
That's basically what I was trying to say. AA is a fun, wacky series, and Edgeworth emphasizing that by pretty much being the only normie is what makes him such a fun character to play as.

I liked the gameplay aspects of Layton vs Wright...but holy shit some of the writing could have been better....They at least needed to BRING UP SPIRITUAL MEDIUMS to fucking melt Prof's mind about magic.
I liked how the explanation for the fake magic and setting was genuinely dumber and less believable than if it was just magic. Also that Espella was bad because she caused the fire, but when it's revealed that Darklaw caused it, nobody cares anymore.
It's a shame how uneven the game is, because a lot of the AA stuff is good. Maya&Phoenix's banter and characters are so much better than the mainline games that came after it.

Imagine when Layton went on his "there is no supernatural" tangent, Mia just showed up to say hello. Apparently, they left out the spirit channeling stuff because it would've clashed with the magic system they came up with. They wanted to avoid going "here's this magic spell shit, but btw, there's this other magic involving ghosts that has nothing to do with it."

Well, that, and the fact that Mia was finally at peace after the 3rd game where everything came to a close. Not to mention she never appears in the future games, not even in passing memory, not even when she meets Maya again.

Obv. her whole mentor storyline is done, I was just saying it would've been funny. There's Layton, after he revealed all of Labyrinthia to be a sham, proving magic was fake. Suddenly, Mia shows up and says "What'd I miss?". Roll credits.

Even better is before the credits roll , if Layton says" This reminds me of a puzzle!" and everyone including Mia laughs. That make the ending to WvL a hell of a lot better.

I just replayed the original trilogy of games, and I have to say, I forgot just how attractive the women in the game were. In a world of Sweet Baby man-jawed mental-illness haircuts, it's refreshing, even going back to an old game, to see a game full of beautiful women. The character designers had good taste.

Since this thread was necrobumped, might as well update everyone on the Apollo trilogy from the game censorship thread

Did anyone else play this? Is the entire script fucked or just this part?

Haven't played it, but AA games' dialogue can change from port to port. The same is true for this new one it looks like, and usually most of it is just minor shit like fixing typos, continuity errors, plot holes, and changing a few non-important pieces of dialogue, and descriptions.

However, this is the first time they've done something like this IIRC, and it's really dumb that they have because the entire context of situation makes it very clear that it wasn't necessary.
The character, Robin Newman, is actually a woman who loves dresses, and girly things, but is secretly forced to pretend to be a man because her parents are really shitty. This is why she's so suspiciously specific that she doesn't like dresses, and girly shit, and why she tries to present herself as being over-the-top masculine, and loud.

She's not trans. She stops acting like a man right after this. The only reason the characters in the OG!version thought her liking dresses as a man was weird is because of how suspiciously specific it was. That, and because Duel Destinies is infamous for being easy, and emphasizing when characters are acting suspicious, and what specifically is making them act suspicious.
Tl;dr: There was literally no reason to change this as the case's own context proves it's not what it looks like, but I don't think there's anything else as major as this in the other AJ Trilogy games that would "require" them to do the same. They might've changed other bits of dialogue to be more "woke", but they've been doing that for years, and it wouldn't be as big of a change as the above. Not defending it. Just sayin'.

I'm happy but I'm already too used to the fan translated localized names of AAI2.
Ngl, the new name for Sebastian made me laugh way harder than it should've.

"Eustace Winner"

"Useless Whiner"

Capcom, I fucking kneel.

Edit: Wait, it also works the other way because it can be read as "You're a winner", and it's also apparently more accurate to the Japanese pun. Genuinely impressive, Capcom.

My feelings on the new names aside, this is something I'd expect Blaise his father to do. Someone that hates his own blood this hard would not be kind even during the naming process.

I'm so glad to finally have AAI 1, and especially 2, conveniently at my fingertips. However, Capcom's at the end of the rope lmao. Finally letting the West have Investigations 2, but still keeping mum on AA7.

This collection just might be a hype up for an out of the blue AAI 3.
