Generally it became clear to me that the only things he knows about the country he's lived in for at least 5 years are those supplied by his wife, who appears to be the typical liberal pro-abortion leftoid, from what I saw on twitter. The types that live in large cities, really hate their nation and country and have a huge inferiority complex. The thing that got me was the "worst air in the world" meme, which Ross repeats without second thought. He lives in Gdańsk, a shithole, and I suspect has never left the city (wow, air so bad compared to when I went to my hikes in Oregon!), afraid he'll get mogged by catholic priests and rednecks. Doesn't speak a lick of the language, knows nothing about the culture, seems to be a rather ungrateful guest, so to speak.
Minor politisperging, but being a European and someone who loves his country I can say that even though I like Ross's content, he's the prime example of the type of immigrant I would NOT want in my own country - the type who has no respect or regard to the country he's residing in with zero interest in integrating. I find it offensive that he lived this many years in a foreign country yet didn't bother or manage to learn even a lick of the local language, treating the place as merely a vessel for his needs.

Ross will be appearing on the SW podcast in about 1 hour 15 minutes. Hopefully this one will have Yahtzee on since he expressed great praise for Ross's works in the past and I imagine holds him in great esteem.

The podcast has concluced and I gotta say, Yahtz and Ross have a good chemistry. Not quite on LDO level, but Yahtzee was evidently enjoying himself. There really wasn't anything of note, the beginning was a little awkward, but in the end Ross ended up explaining the action in great detail with Yahtz along with that mystery meat whatever-his-name-is providing a ton of insight. AIDS Moby as usual was being fucking useless, and you know how every meetup between multiple people always has that one guy who goes "Ah hahahaha, that's right" every minute or so without actually contributing anything? That was him. The whole time. They really would have been better off having a dog cam or an empty space, which is even funnier considering he was there solely because he "knew more about Ross Scott". Yeah. Exposure was given, so there's that.

Wait, you're telling me the air that I've been breathing all my life is worse than it actually should be? :[

Anyway, outside of Ross being an ungrateful fuck, I had this thought about how he presented Gordon in Freeman's Mind 2. More notably how he has no idea who Eli or Barney is, but knows Kleiner very well. It is meant to point out the plot hole of how come now you have these fleshed out characters when in the previous game they were a bunch of generic NPC's, but why is Kleiner an exception?

I believe Ross applied an obscure piece of lore here:

Gordon's admission letter from PS2's Half-Life manual. This is the piece of lore that tells us that Gordon was working for about a week in Black Mesa before the Resonance Cascade, so he couldn't get to know Barney and Eli well, but it implies that he knew Kleiner ever since he was studying at MIT, and it was Kleiner that recommended him to work at Black Mesa, so he knows.

I'm pretty sure he took this bit and used it for Freeman's Mind 2. Seems very likely when it comes to this sperg.

Okay, settle down buddy. That letter mentioning Kleiner came with the manual included with the original PC release of Half-Life, it's not some obscure lore thing.

Still, how many people got a physical copy of HL1 to read that manual and connect those facts? It's obscure by the merit of physical copies being much rarer than Steam purchases over the span of those 25 years since it's release. Also, Half-Life's lore is a mess because it's all little snippets of hints in the games and then pieces of physical media like the manual. Don't act like this is common knowledge.

Does HL ever get a lore book? I feel like only after the 360 and PS3 era those became popular in series such AssCreed

Doesn't Steam include digital manuals usually? (no one looks at them)

As far as I'm aware, no. Digital manuals are added only at the discretion of the developers' good will on Steam, and you're more likely to find those on GOG as the extra freebies you get there to incentivize getting games at GOG over Steam or other platforms more. Otherwise you either own a physical copy of HL1 or you looked up the manual on the web yourself.

Sorry, but that's the truth. Gordon's admission letter is an obscure piece of lore. Nowadays Half-Life fans aren't people like you who got their big box copy back in the 90's and read the manual, they're people who got their hands on the game either by piracy or by Steam, where in both cases they've only obtained the game itself, so any piece of lore that wasn't a part of the game itself became obscure over time. Not to mention, for how long did Valve make that big box manual before moving on to jewel cases and then digital only?

Gordon's admission letter is obscure lore.
That's the truth and you can give me all the "Dumb" and "MATI" stickers in the world, it won't change the fact that it's true. It is obscure because it's only source was a limited physical print.

By the way, I like how my post was just a shower thought about "why does Freeman know and fears Kleiner in Freeman's Mind 2", but because I dared to call the HL1 manual an "obscure" piece of lore @numetalborder got mad that not every single person on planet Earth was born in the US in the 80's to get their hands on that little manual for it to not be considered "obscure" by other people, so the discussion shifted to the obscurity of HL lore that was scattered on physical manuals.

I haven't played Half Life or watched those videos, so I don't really care lol. I just thought it was a default. You think the company running the damn thing would at least include.

I am sad to report that the windows apologist just made a good point. They don't mention kleiner in the game at all and you have to read out of game lore to even see his name. That pretty much exactly fits ross's gripe with the other characters.

It was obscure for the time, sure. The age of the video essay is upon us however, which is how I learned about this bit of lore as a Half-Life fan myself (I've got a jewel case copy with no manual and a Blue Shift ad on the back). I don't think it can be considered obscure anymore just like how Mario 2 originally being Doki Doki Panic or Star Fox Adventures being Dinosaur Planet isn't necessarily obscure these days. The lore isn't explained at all in-game but you don't need to hunt down old manuals that were barely printed or interview ex-devs to get the details now. We have autistic Youtubers that did the work for us

To keep it on-topic Mandalore mentioned the campaign in this video a while back

You slavs do the same thing in the United Kingdom

We are not selling games, we are selling a license to participate in our online entertainment event.

You're never going to win. I mean it's great to attack and cause pain, but understand that's the only possible outcome (outside of extra-legal activities for people that actually want to still play dead games).

the prima guides gave away some lore iirc
I had a Prima guide (not for Half-life) that had a full walkthrough of the game written up like a story told from the Protagonist's POV. It was pretty cool. They could have just told you how to do everything step by step, but they went the extra mile and gave you a little storybook to read.
