after the scene phase ended and she was stuck with "Scene Queen" on her chest, after the Hello Kitty phase ended and she was stuck with a giant HK on her hand, after the Motionless in White phase ended and she was stuck with a huge MIW tattoo on her other hand, after the Melanie Martinez phase ended and she was left with a CRY BABY tattoo on her forearm (this phase ended the very next day after she got this tat), after fading in and out of a Nightmare phase despite being spackled in NBC tattoos on each arm.....you think she'd catch onto the idea that she SHOULDN'T PERMANENTLY TATTOO HER PHASES.

...but then she goes and tattoos her fucking face itself for a Lil Xan phase.

It’s strange that she looks far more mature in a high school photo than she does now. You’d expect the opposite, the High School photo to show embarrassing scene style and then growing out of that in her 20s. It’s like she’s regressing.

Also, why does her hair look like she just rolled out of bed in the old photo? She put on a nice dress and was doing a decent job of putting herself together for prom but then just leaves her hair looking like she just got up from a nap. Weird.

Well it is an actual hairstyle though it looks like far more effort was put into it on the video than prom. It seems over the years the internet helped Abby go deeper down the bad style rabbit hole. Seems like she is very determined not the grow up.

Her Dad must be quite well liked. Now a days they are more likely to shuttle off a old local anchor with no fanfare or maybe lett him say goodbye at the end of his last broadcast. The station allowed a bit of a production for his final day, and that people got up at dawn to participate, is evidence he was quite well regarded.

Oh no her hair doesn’t look terrible just doing that “messy” look for prom and your dad’s TV retirement part is odd. I mean it looks like the way one would wear it everyday not done for a special occasion or even particularly styled at all.

Actually it being a small town is why it stands out to me now. A big on-air to do like that used to be the norm for a retiring small market local anchor, but usually they’d have a 25 plus career there.

The big media corporations have been buying and consolidating many small stations and unlike in the past they frown on letting a newscaster get too popular or powerful because then they want paid more. I’ve been shocked how they now cycle through old news vets and young interns at small news stations now. Small stations used to have the same faces for decades now they change almost with the season. I had not seen a big acknowledgement of a anchor retiring since I was a kid but I still got the vibe the poor guy was being forced into retirement.

(Departing anchors actually get more acknowledgement in some of the bigger markets if they are truly retiring (not going to a competitors) or getting promoted up the chain because their social capital is more valuable in heated big ad money markets. The small local stations now treat the talent like a meat grinder because no matter how popular they get it doesn’t matter due to the limited ad income possible in small markets)

I can't knock her phases. I've done it. Scene to raver to full blown kandi kid. I've settled with semi Kawaii semi normal. But the way she cycles often makes we wonder if she's trying to shed her memories with will and her inability to find any sort of decent interaction. She said she’d cried all her makeup off just before the video, but never really elaborated why (unless it was after the halfway point, by which time I gave up).
She also mentioned being stressed out, so idk if she’s on anti-anxiety meds. Some of that shit can get you pretty dopey.

It's pretty clear from just that single interaction with her mom that they let her do whatever she wants. They probably didn't discipline her at all growing up. Her mom just acted like she was trying to avoid a confrontation.
