Think about 3 times in life where you were happy, or 3 events that made you happy. They don't have to be big events, even something that brightened up your day or made you crack a smile.

Don't think too long and hard, just the first 3 that pop into your mind. Got them?

Now, think about if those were external or internal events that made you happy. For example, an external event could be hearing a joke, hanging out with friends or watching a good movie. An internal event is something like winning a competition, scoring a goal or passing a driving test.

Do external, internal or a mix of both events make you happy?
 
Both. It's always good to have esteem from within and esteem from friends/family. Your accomplishments mean nothing without you, and you mean nothing with those accomplishments if there's nobody to celebrate over them with you.
