Opinion A really stupid question regarding climate and migration - Let's assume all those doomsayers are correct. Then why is nobody acting on that?

A really stupid question regarding climate and migration

A very stupid question.

Goodbye Hamburg?
If Greenland melts down completely, the sea levels rise by 7m [23']. Greenland is already losing 200 billion m³ [27 billion gallons/7 trillion ft³] every year! That corresponds to four times the volume of Lake Constance [the big lake at the German-Swiss border].
Shouldn't we put #climateprotection back at the top of the schedule?

I don't want to look at the plausibility and the physical and quantitative correctness at all right now. But simply ask about the consequences.

By the way, this is the coastline if both polar ice caps melt. Cologne will be a seaport then.

Which is also complete bunk because Berlin is between 34 and 115 meters [111-377'] above sea level, but I'm not gonna question it and just take it as is. Let's pretend without any criticism that this is the case.

And let us also put aside the question of whether this is even our business, whether there will be even a single German living in Cologne by then, and whether physics have been replaced with Quran and it's Allah's responsibility to save his people with divine power (although I do care about the question why Allah and the salvation of believers has not been taken into account in the climate models at all, and why there is no fuss whatsoever around it being severe blasphemy to assume that man could, with his actions, make the sea level rise and flood mosques and believers against the will of Allah.).

Let's think back to the Ahr valley flooding catastrophe.

There, too, the question was floating in the room why they weren't prepared for it, or why they even built and settled in a flood plain.

So why do they not, effective immediately, cancel all construction activity in Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, create relocation plans for the population towards the southern (=more elevated) parts of the country, and recalculate the acceptance capacity of refugees based on the expected significantly lower area of Germany?

Because both don't fit together. You cannot simultaneously grandstand "We've got room!" and get ever more people into the country, without any limit, and proclaim that Germany's borders will shrink, the country is going to become massively smaller.

In principle, the government - we've allegedly passed the point of no return to save the climate, the catastrophe cannot be stopped - would need to immediately make plans to evacuate the northern states - Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Berlin, Brandenburg - and build up corresponding accommodation capacities in the southern states. And use that as a basis to calculate how much of a refugee capacity - divided into standing rooms and seats - we still have.

I would like to discuss the question why they simultaneously
  • when it comes to migration, claim "We've got room"
  • when it comes to climate, claim "We're all going to die drowning".

Yes ... so which is it now?

And if you are so certain that there's going to be a catastrophe: Why are no preparations being made for it? Why didn't they order a fatwa to check whether this is even possible that man, the non-believer, can cause such things, and what is to be done? And how's that supposed to go? Women and believers first?

Been hearing this shit for over fifty years now....too many people, won't be enough food, going to enter another Ice Age, going to roast, it's all so tiresome. Climate change is natural, happens over time.

Because religious zealots aren't really concerned about the logical consistency of their beliefs or practical outcomes. They are concerned with things like demonstrating their piety, sussing out heretics, stopping apostasy, and purifying their souls.

None of this shit crosses their minds.

When the rich stop buying palatial seaside mansions, I will take ‘in-my-lifetime’ sea level rise seriously.
Until then the east coast of Albion continues to slide down a bit and the west keeps rising up, on the rebound, still(!) after the ice melted last time.
