@pollution jim I must correct your misinformation. Please do not solely rely on ai for things you know little about. Shadow the rat only does this every few months and its for old rats, the main bad things are the sugar and fat content (the caffiene is so low it barely factors, Ill talk about that further on). It is most definitely a treat food but she is not poisoning her rats, as for your other comment, I doubt you are any prize either, so petty!

Not only do these links disprove your ai collected opinion but I also have my own testimony of working in shelters and in science for over a decade. I found it bizarre you thought it reasonable to even discuss this in a schizo thread but here we are. In around the fifty rats I have personally attended to and cared for, not one has died from chocolate. I have observed papers done on large consumption of chocolate in rodents and the amount needed to even be detrimental is massive, we are talking the same amount as a rats bodyweight (the caffiene content at this amount is toxic but honestly I think consuming your bodyweight in many foods within a short time would be pretty bad, kind of like the apple seed cyanide content and how youd need a few kilograms of appleseeds lol, its just not present or a big concern)
A teeny tiny bit a couple of times in their lives is not bad, especially if a rat is old, its okay to spoil em


The hysteria surrounding chocolate and pets stems from canines lacking the ability to process theobromine well, this was then turned into, all pets and animals must not be able to process it at all, which is just foolish thinking.. Every pet is different and has different tolerances, we use a lot of rats and mice (95 percent of lab animals are mice) in our research so thankfully we know quite a bit about rattus and mus clades
