ORLANDO, Fla. (CNN/WKMG) — A Florida grandmother was shocked to find out her 6-year-old granddaughter had been arrested Thursday for throwing a tantrum.

Meralyn Kirkland says Kaia’s journey to the juvenile detention center by Orlando Police Officers began at Lucious and Emma Nixon Elementary charter school.

“What do you mean she was arrested, he said ‘there was an incident and she kicked somebody and she is being charged and she is on her way,'” Kirkland explained.

The disorienting chaos was too much for Kirkland to process.

“She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved and he says, ‘what medical condition, she has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea,’ and he says, ‘well I have sleep apnea and I don’t behave like that.”

First grader Kaia was handcuffed and carted off where Kirkland says she was fingerprinted and even had a mug shot taken.

“They told us we had to wait a few minutes because Kaia was being fingerprinted, and when she said finger printed it hit me like a ton of bricks,” Kirkland said. “No six year old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile center to be fingerprinted, mug shot”

Kaia is happy to be back home.

Imagine having a rap sheet at 6 years old. Imagine having a mug shot at 6 years old.

When I was 6 I used to lock the teacher out of the room, laugh during classes, and chase people around in my underwear. I'd be in prison today.

To be honest all children should be arrested and having new ones should be outlawed because children are worthless.

boo hoo victim of society.

fuck the little shit, its feral. maximum sentence

On one hand this is a ridiculous example of a police state, on the other I fucking hate children and it's about time someone cracked down on the entitled little shits

Despite Maddox having cucked out over the years, it's seems like he did hit the nail on the head when he pumped out these pieces on how bratty children should be dealt with by being counted as carry-on luggage and curing rebellious behavior with good parenting way back then. Thinking Florida Man took cues from him.

Officer suspended after arresting two 6-year-old children at Florida school

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando police officer has been suspended after arresting two 6-year-old children last week.

In one case, the child’s grandmother, Meralyn Kirkland, told WKMG that her daughter had been acting out in class. Kirkland said the girl suffers from a medical condition that sometimes leads to a lack of sleep.

The 6-year-old kicked a staff member who tried to calm her down, Kirkland said. The little girl was charged with battery.

“How do you do that to a 6-year-old child and because she kicked somebody?” Kirkland told WKMG. “A literal mug shot of a 6-year-old girl.”

Another 6-year-old was arrested in an unrelated case, according to WKMG.

“No 6-year-old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile center to be fingerprinted, mugshot,” Kirkland said.

According to the Orlando Police Department, officers are supposed to get approval from a watch commander before arresting someone under the age of 12. The school resource officer, identified as Dennis Turner, failed to follow that policy, the department said.

While one child was processed, including fingerprinting and a mugshot, police said processing for the second child was stopped when the transporting officer realized approval hadn’t been given for the arrest.

The police department has launched an internal investigation into the matter.

Good. This guy is a fucking idiot.

"Well I have sleep apnea and I don't act like that!", yeah, no shit, asshole. You're also not a literal six year old. I'm not saying that kids should be able to act how ever they want. They do need discipline, and to be punished when they act out, but arresting kindergartners for having tantrums, mugshot, fingerprints, and all is a gross overreaction, monumentally stupid, and completely unjustifiable.

The school resource officer was fired on the spot too.

Also, really feels like there's a lot left out. If her "tantrum" injured an adult or another child, I can see why they would take such drastic actions. It actually seems pretty reasonable. Better than the UK where they let enraged Somali kids bite girls at rec centers.

I went to primary school with an autistic kid. He was in a special needs classes but we were all lumped together during breaks, and he tended to follow me and other Russian-speaking kids around and try to slam into us.

Anyways, one day he just jumped on me while I was playing with marbles and broke two of my fingers. And when my governess realized the severity of my injuries back at home (as in, it wasn't just a bruise but actual fractures), she contacted my parents, who in turn contacted the school, but nothing was done about that sped.
Oh, and I also got to be yelled at by his mother the next day for "not including Christophe in your games".

Tldr: Coddling spoiled children, albeit ones with disabilities, isn't the right way to go imho.

lol. Little kids are awesome. They're like having your own personal lolcow. They cost like shit, though.

In kindergarten we had this autistic kid that was high functioning. It was a time where parents didn't want to bother with these things, especially foreign born ones. He used to spaz out from time to time and the teacher could only have him sit in the corner. One day he just lets out a blood curdling scream and hurls a wooden block with a splinter at some kids head. The block was hanging by the splinter and they eventually had to remove the sped from class and suspend him. Chances are he went to a shrink and was diagnosed, but the parents refused to accept it since he was the only "functional" child that lived.

To everyone saying it was a just a gag to scare the kid, nope. It was a real arrest, with real fingerprints taken and a real mugshot and a real criminal record.

*honk* *honk*

As people mentioned before, we unfortunately live in a society where if a teacher even looks at a student funny, they can lose their job. An aquaintance would mention stories of otb chinese kids who wouldn't bother raising their hand to ask to use the bathroom, instead they would get up and urinate in the class sink. The teacher can't even go near them since they can end up being branded as a chomo. Discipline needs to be brought back to schools, especially if esl and speds will be mixed into mainstream classrooms.
