ORLANDO, Fla. (CNN/WKMG) — A Florida grandmother was shocked to find out her 6-year-old granddaughter had been arrested Thursday for throwing a tantrum.

Meralyn Kirkland says Kaia’s journey to the juvenile detention center by Orlando Police Officers began at Lucious and Emma Nixon Elementary charter school.

“What do you mean she was arrested, he said ‘there was an incident and she kicked somebody and she is being charged and she is on her way,'” Kirkland explained.

The disorienting chaos was too much for Kirkland to process.

“She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved and he says, ‘what medical condition, she has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea,’ and he says, ‘well I have sleep apnea and I don’t behave like that.”

First grader Kaia was handcuffed and carted off where Kirkland says she was fingerprinted and even had a mug shot taken.

“They told us we had to wait a few minutes because Kaia was being fingerprinted, and when she said finger printed it hit me like a ton of bricks,” Kirkland said. “No six year old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile center to be fingerprinted, mug shot”

Kaia is happy to be back home.

Imagine having a rap sheet at 6 years old. Imagine having a mug shot at 6 years old.

I tend to think that is true more for secondary teachers, but nearly every kindergarten teacher I've ever met has been the idealistic, nurturing type. They also are the ones who tend to quit once they get married and have kids. There is a pretty high turnover rate for Kindergarten teachers. Or maybe that's just in my area.

Florida is a level of crazy I can't even comprehend, though, so it might be different. They may be power tripping there. Can't rule it out.
My kindergarten teacher was the meanest bitch in the world so I’m Team This Kid.

are you shitting me? she got arrested for kicking another kid? shes a fucking 6 year old who cares if they kick each other? i was expecting her to have maybe stabbed her friend with a scissor or brought her daddy's drugs to school something but no she just kicked another kid...

i'm glad i grew up when i did, if i was growing up today i would get the death penalty.

There's some bittersweet truth to that, when everyone wonders why nobody will stop to help a bleeding person on the street these days, and blame moral decay or whatnot, remember how the imminent threat of lawsuits are on the mind of passerby these days, wondering if they're going to be the next person sued for negligence for trying to help.
Forgive my autism, but it's my understanding good Samaritan laws are pretty strong.
Bystander effect in full swing and I can't even judge because God knows I'd have it too.

Likely stupid but,

1: More than likely the cops just did it to scare her.

2: The Prosecutor will almost certainly go nolle prosequi even if the cops didn't do it just to scare her.

3: Typically, when a child is that young they don't even go to juvenile detention, they just have a social worker assigned to them.

4: The headline is misleading as fuck. It says she was arrested for a "tantrum," which wasn't the case.

5: There's no mention of whom she kicked, or how bad the person was hurt. Did she barely kick the teacher, and do basically nothing, or did she kick the fuck of another student and cause serious injury? That information makes a world of difference in whether an arrest was justified, or not.

6: Racism lol. Aramis Ayala is the prosecutor for Orlando. She's a crazy lefty dindu, and capital cases are no longer held in her jurisdiction because she said would never pursue the death penalty under any circumstances. (remember, this is Florida... ANY CIRCUMSTANCE) The Chief of police is Orlando (yes really) Rolon, a Puerto Rican with a bad haircut. Pretty sure it was city PD that made the arrest, but in case it was somehow the sheriff's department... https://www.ocso.com/

All in all, I think unless there was a serious injury as a result of her kicking someone, an arrest was inappropriate. Though the information presented isn't enough to determine this for sure.

It's not even the first time an educator is too incompetent to discipline a child without calling the cops like a smug prick.

Props to granny for not gut-punching the guy right then and there, because I would've gladly joined my grandkid in custody for shit this stupid.

Stop right there criminal scum! You have been noticing things! Stop noticing things! White man bad! Blue man bad!

These days, I won’t stop to check on someone lying on the street because I don’t want to get shanked.

I feel like there's a lot of details that have been left out of this story. How explosive was her tantrum? Did she kick an adult or another child? If it's the latter, were they injured or seriously frightened? Does she have a history of this kind of behavior? Who was the arresting officer? What happened to her actual parents? Since I can't watch the video and have only the article to go by, was there any attempt to contact the school or police department regarding this matter?

No, kids have to learn. She won't learn from her grandmother, her mother probably abandoned her to chase crack and a nigga that isn't worth anything. She has to learn from somewhere. At least she's getting the treatment that OPL should have gotten as a kid.

She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved

Couple of years ago I dated a Pediatrician, she would take calls for a local orphanage that had special needs orphans in their care.
She also treated non orphan special needs kids.

Now I'm pretty sure this is obvious to most people, but she used to tell me that the Orphan kids were always better behaved than the ones with parents. The reason for this, she'd said, was it felt to her that some parents of disabled kids would use their kid's disabilities as an excuse to not be a good parent.
"Oh, my kid's not an ass he's just autistic."
"Oh, my kid ain't failing math cause he ain't doing his homework, he's just got ADD."
Shit like that.
Ultimately makes me feel sorry for the kids, since they're the ones who have to live with the lack of dissipline and skills that an propper parents should have helped them with.

Oddly as I was reading this, I saw a report on the overnight news. Two kids were arrested that day, the 6-year-old and an 8-year-old (don’t know if it was related). The “school officer” was suspended because he “did not follow protocol”. Apparently the school is not releasing details.

We need to move back to old-fashioned teaching methods.

Reading, writing, 'rithmetic.
Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick

When I was 6 I used to lock the teacher out of the room, laugh during classes, and chase people around in my underwear. I'd be in prison today.

To be honest all children should be arrested and having new ones should be outlawed because children are worthless.

That's if the opinion of the cops is on your side. If you're going to conduct CPR for someone, wear a bodycam doing it. They will judge your innocence by your appearance, the only thing stopping that is video evidence they can't supersede with the authority of their opinion, & even then it's a fight of how that footage can be interpreted.

Yes, a six year old girl has the physical strength to break a person's ribs, that is a realistic scenario⸮
Good. Hopefully this incident will instill discipline and fear of authority in the young negra so she can stray from the pack become a productive member of society.
No, if anything, it'll be used as fuel for a race war narrative to be drilled into her head by BLM and her peers and used as an example of white supremacy. We all know where this is going. She will be used as a poster child for BLM & other Black Panther-esque black supremacist groups and possibly brainwashed herself to believe she's a victim of racism, specifically the racism of the progressive stack school of thought. We can only hope BLM isn't actually that smart.
