Say that to a group of people who use mathematics all the time you'll soon have a civil war between the people who say you're right and the people who say the true and honest answer is 1I hate this shitty fucking question, and I fucking hate the ÷ symbol. That said:
Expanding parentheses first produces 6÷2*3
Division is just multiplication by a reciprocal, so 6÷2 = 6*1/2
So you can rewrite it as 6*0.5*3
Now the order doesn't matter because multiplication is commutative! 6*0.5*3 = 3*3 = 9.
Many are misremembering how PEMDAS actually works. A cursory glance the Wikipedia page for operation precedence reveals that multiplication and division have the same precedence because they are effectively the same operation (same is true for addition and subtraction), so it's left-to-right, hence, 9. 1cels seethe eternally.Say that to a group of people who use mathematics all the time you'll soon have a civil war between the people who say you're right and the people who say the true and honest answer is 1
