Not really but I remember when it was marginally less horrible. I remember you could always open up /b/ and in among the garbage and shitposting and furry porn there would be some greens that were, if not worth reading, at least weird and unlike what you'd see anywhere else. You could even read /pol/ or its predecessor without it being full of unironic redditors spewing boring boomer politics and instead of mindlessly worshipping an idiot like Trump they mindlessly worshipped Ron Paul.

What I do miss is the best OC 8chan did produce, the questionable content edits on /co/ around '14-15. You can still find the edits in 8chan.moe but without the stories about editfag, the banter and the multiple people making twitter accounts to shit on Jeph Jacques it's just like looking at old blurry photographs, it just makes you want to cry.

Jeph lurked those threads. Whenever he was called a faggot and told about continuity errors or shit plots he would try to stealth edit them or make a "ha ha, look at how meta I am" in the following weeks.

Found these images. 2017 was the year when soy and soyboy (and to a lesser extent numale) replaced cuck as the buzzword of choice and shiposters were spamming it constantly and attaching it to literally every other word, you had people on /v/ unironically using words like "soyfun" to describe things they didn't like. It got so bad that it was filtered sitewide except for /ck/. I seriously think this post was one of the catalysts for that decision, it was one of the first times "soyfun" was used and everyone's reaction was how ridiculous it was and how out-of-hand soyposting was getting.

I'm now reminded of the time when people would respond to soyface images by editing them into SHOOP DA WHOOP memes. I think it was around the time the wordfilter for soy was put into place. It's still the funniest method I've seen to try and counter soyface spam.

If that guy is being honest then it worked, it was nearly impossible to have a proper Simpsons thread on /tv/ for almost 3 years.

About that Wojak edit screenshot, it made me realize that Wojak is probably one of the longest-lasting memes ever. Just when you think he's about to go out of fashion and die off, a new incarnation pops up and spreads all over the site again. I still remember in like 2012 or so when I knew him as "feels guy". Then around 2015 he got paired up with Pepe and they became a Tom & Jerry-esque duo. It went on like that until like 2016 or 2017 when Pepe mostly left 4chan to become a full-time Twitch meme and Wojak began mutating. First there was brainlet Wojack, then NPC Wojak, then Soyjak, then boomer/zoomer/doomer/coomer Wojak. There was also pink Wojak and Nujak which were both mostly /biz/ memes but I don't know where they fit into the timeline.

what fucks me up about wojak isn't necessarily that it's been so pervasive for so long - shit from the 2000s is absolutely making a comeback, just look at the tiktok kids thirsting for jfk - there are just so many fucking TYPES of wojaks and even those subtypes have warped and grown into their own thing, like how doomer wojak suddenly metamorphosized into a cute femmy emo eboy:

I there's nothing to dissect, is just a total lack of creativity, there's no complexity whatsoever into wojak. Memes are just the same templates forever, just like reddit ones. Reddit is still using the same drake templates from years ago too, the 4 chan version is the virgin vs Chad one. Or the " yes" one or literally anything from there. Is reddit as fuck.
