If 4chan does go down for real, I will miss the musical videos but to be fair I think those haven't been a true thing for nearly a decade now.

It's a site that has served as the birthplace for so many memes and aspects of Internet culture but nothing lasts forever and the place has been kind of stagnant for a long time.

I always assumed that the iCloud hack that led to hundreds of celeb nudes being leaked took that mantle but I’ve forgotten the dates. That and could be confusing “mainstream controversy” part for a “event that actually drew some serious interest from the Alphabet Agencies” one.
The fappening was 2014, moot sold 4chan a year after that.

This is a seriously comprehensive hack. I’m not a technigger so I don’t really know the full scope but this cannot be an easy fix. They’d have to tear the site down and start from scratch or else this would just happen again immediately after.
looks like the attacker had root access through some vulnerability in the server's operating system
it's basically as bad as a hack can get, full access and control over every part of the system

I wonder how many medals Soyteens earned from this?

Imagine how many Qtard Trump boomers saw /pol/ dead and took it as an attack from the Deep State.
Q shit hasn't been a thing outside of Facebook and Twitter for about half a decade now. I hate this smug reddit-tier sneer that that's all 4chan is (again not even accurate, Q posting was born on 8chan). /pol/ is more just twitter screenshots and sucking Trump off than anything else these days.

4chan is running on a version of FreeBSD that is 11 years old and went EOL in 2016 or so. I'm amazed in retrospect that this didn't happen sooner.

4chan has for the most part very anti pedo. Back in the day we would go to stupid lengths to expose predators and delete their system 32 and report them to feds. I know there is a lot of freaks on 4chan but just like the farms, many good people who dont like seeing innocent and vulnerable people taken advantage of.
Nigger, 4cuck was full of pedos and it was glorifying pedo culture in the active boards. Jannies/mods/admins were clearly allowing it and now there's proof on top of it all.
/v/ /vg/ /pol/ /r9k/ /tv/ were full of loliposters.

I hope Null disables registrations for at least a month, the flood will be terrible.

yep it was pretty much waiting to happen, security through obscurity can only work until it doesn’t

for all the non tech minded people, the only way the attacker would have been able to do more damage is if he was standing in the server room with a fire axe

"q's" first ever post (according to qagg) was on /pol/, and it stayed that way for a few months until eventually migrating to 8chan.
