It’s also obvious 4chan actually doesn’t get newfags anymore or actual new blood. Most edgy teens all swarm to Sharty it seems. 4chan is not even that cultural powerful anymore either and as I have said before it’s mostly a legacy site for 30+ nerds with added demoralization bots.

The last meme I can remember originating from there was the Redfield Bloodline from 2019...

4chan hasn't been culturally relevant for a decade, and it would have been longer if not for the spike in activity during the 2016 election, which also ironically ended up being the final nail in the coffin. Even in 2016 it was far removed from the days of exploding vans and consequences never being the same.

4chan hasn't generated any internet culture for a long time, and there are nearly no valuable discussions happening there. Add an oversensitive moderation team squashing any real fun or creativity on top of that, and it's no surprise 4chan doesn't appeal to young people. Even the Sharty is mostly just a dumping ground for low effort shitposts. Seems like most kids stick to Tiktok and their private Discord servers.

When I first started using 4chan it definitely wasn't as extremely right wing as it is now. I wouldn't call it leftist though. It's been so weird seeing the shift on there. Going from thinking everyone sucks and supporting Trump as a middle finger to the system, to unironically simping for republican party.

4chan was the last gasp of millennial rebellion, the 2015 election season was their big Hail Mary moment. Since then, their culture got dissolved and botted into oblivion. Plus eventually that youthful energy faded, the ones who grew up stopped contributing with effortposts and focused on their careers and families instead, so the only ones left were the jaded wagies and neets, millennials who knew their heyday came and went and they failed to launch, the wave washed them ashore instead of taking them for a surf.

Sharty is just zoomers larping as millennial 4channers, their real culture is the tiktok and discord shit. One generation simply replaced the other in pop culture, just like how the millenials replaced GenXers hanging out in malls. I can't wait to see what degenerate shit gen alpha and beta are going to come up with.

my life is offline, my hobbies are offline, they could pull the plug tomorrow and my life would go on.
I feel more and more like this is the correct move.

Being online in 2026 feels like being in Rome while it's getting sacked by barbarians. And the sad part is that (just like Rome), the barbarians are only here because this was the best place in the world at one point. There was optimism, energy, creativity. Thousands of people spent entire chunks of their youth on the internet just making it a cooler place to be in. Just look at those videos documenting early MMO history like Ragnarok Online, MapleStory, OSRS etc. They weren't just shitposting arenas, but places where people formed bonds, started traditions, built something up. That's something that doesn't happen today. If any news comes out of an internet community now, it's usually about how X guy is a pedophile who groomed a 14 year old.

Hopefully there's just a mass brain drain of all smart people from the internet. We all need to leave the world wide web and put our creativity somewhere else. This thing is dead.
