The No Kings movement's second nationwide protest against the Trump administration is scheduled for Oct. 18.
The non-violent protests mobilize people who decry President Donald Trump’s hardline policies on immigration and other issues to take part in one collective protest in fifty states, according to the coalition’s news release.
The No Kings movement references Trump’s threats to ramp up military presence in cities across the U.S. and efforts to increase detainment of immigrants as a calling card for the October event.
The protest is part of a series of events meant to make a statement in response to what the collective describes as Trump’s “authoritarianism” as a leader.
“The No Kings protests are a chance for We the People to resist the rampant abuses of power happening daily by this government, which continues to strike at the pillars of our free society,” said Deirdre Schifeling, chief political and advocacy officer for the American Civil Liberties Union, one of the groups participating in the protests, in a statement. “The president and his administration are abusing the power of the presidency – trying to instill fear and use the power of the government to crush those who disagree with him.”
The No Kings protests, also referred to as 50501, which means all 50 states participate as one movement. Fifty states are confirmed to be participating in No Kings events on Oct. 18, according to the No Kings news release.
One of the movement’s primary tenants is its dedication to non-violent protest, according to the movement's website.
In June, over five million people took part in No Kings events, including the thousands in Houston that demonstrated their opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration policies as well as the president’s multimillion dollar military parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
