Maiden Cops is set for a 2024 release. Developed by Brazilians, which is good, I trust them with the genre more than 1st-world caucasoids.

Sampled the demo; it's a pretty basic Streets of Rage clone with half naked anime girls who hit one another with their breasts and posteriors. btw sorry but SoR throws are ass and indie devs should stop copying them. Anybody who prefers the way throws work in SoR compared to a Capcom game has to have a brain tumor or something. I like that the dudes bounce off of walls instead of going off-screen like in SoR4, that's one of those things every game should copy. Anyway, definitely see some potential for mediocrity here, looking forward to the finished game.

The Phantom trailer:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=F98-CPhdXdkI quite expected that, the art looks good, but in certain bits the animation looks very choppy, hopefully it improves on release.
I brought this up earlier and now that I'm not on my phone I'll post some pictures showing how beloved the phantom is.

Tribal war shields:

Oddly enough the one on the left is the italian phantom, he's red there.

Which isn't so bad, it could certainly be worse...

New Zealand:

iirc different markets started colorizing the comic when there weren't any real guidelines on what color he was. Something like that. This was in the late 30's/early 40's by the way.
So depending on the country he was either blue(correct color btw, fight me), purple, red, yellow - all with different colored stripes(or no stripes at all) on his speedos.

Grey is the canonically correct color according to Lee Falk:

Fun fact: The only adults that read The Phantom are cops so if you see someone that isn't a child(in body and/or mind) reading it he's 100% an undercover cop. Cops love their Kit Walker. If you see an adult woman reading the phantom I just don't know what to tell you, that's never happened before. Maybe they thought they were buying Modesty Blaise.

I did play Growl which was like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs but not as good when it comes to the gameplay but the absurdity carries it through with insane "distinctly Japanese" set pieces level after level. The weapon pickups were fun too.

Wasn't Metamorphic Force pretty much a sprite swapped X - Men?
Edit: That was supposed to be a reply but I suck and can't figure out how to quote in an edit. I also agree the throws in SoR suck.

It pretty much was, with the main caveat that you couldn't throw mooks unless you picked up the statue that turned you into a furry. Even had screen-clearing specials that drained life.

I think Growl is the oldest and probably jankiest of the bunch. Arabian Magic and Pulirula feel like the King of Dragons-likes I've been looking for.

MF kinda seems a lot better though

YT recommendations actually recommending something good:

Sadly, arcade only but holy shit. I never knew this existed until a few hours ago. Going to try it out when I can.
Follow up: I played Rastan 3 and... It's just average. I love the sprites and sound effects. The aesthetics are on point and remind me a lot of Golden Ax: the Revenge of Death Adder. But just like that game, the gameplay is very shallow. It's just a button masher like X-Men or Simpsons Arcade. There might be a tiny bit of nuance because I noticed you could air juggle but (unless I completely overlooked this) this aint no Capcom Beat 'em Up like AVP that had legit combo videos:

Even other shit like Punisher had combos and shit.

Also, Metamorphic Force sucks. X-Men all the way.

Recently bought and played Double Dragon Gaiden on a steam sale. I had no idea this game has been out for half a year. In short it's extremely meh. Not a fan of how basic attack chains work since the last hit takes a long time to execute. The combat system also revolves around the "crowd control" specials. You need them to get enemies to drop health and fulfill stage challenges but if you miss or don't get enough enemies (3 or more) in a crowd control attack you're stuck waiting for the meter to fill up. Some bosses have an extremely short windows for a counter attack before they are ready to attack again or you need to deal with endless minions.
In game art is okay at best. Looks like a game boy advance game. Music is decent, I've had the remixed super double dragon tune in my head for a while.

Well that is certainly a opinion. tbh, no game where throws actually come out consistently can be as half as mashy as the dregs of Konami's arcade licensedshit, Warrior Blade included.. WB feels like Growl in a slightly bad way, but it was doing juggle combos off of throws way back before Fight'n Rage or Ninja Saviors so we all owe it some gratitude perhaps. Weirdly passive enemies but I only played a couple levels.

Ah, if only. The storefront blurb for Double Dragon Advance flat out says it's the best game in the series.

ABOUT THIS GAME

Double Dragon Advance, known as the pinnacle of the series for its incorporation of moves and graphics from across the games, comes back to life on modern consoles!

Which it is. But it's insensitive to come right out and just say that, when the re-release came out right after the new one. I think Gaiden is by the same devs as the roguelite beatemup Streets of Red, haven't played either and don't want to...

That makes a lot of sense if it's the Streets of Red devs. I remember having similar feeling about that game.

Thanks for the info. Been thinking about picking this one up but if it's just 'meh' I'll be sticking to autistically grinding Dragon's Crown.

I enjoyed Double Dragon Gaiden, but I can't really recommend it, it is like recommending Path of Exile for a Dragon's Dogma player, they are both ARPGs but also entire different things.

I enjoyed it too for about half an hour. After getting all the achievements I would say it sucks. It's not about being different, it isn't a good game.

I played it enough to unlock all the characters and kinda sorta figure out how to do some longer combo nonsense with Abobo. I thought it was allright, but I'm also not very seasoned in the genre, so maybe I just have much lower expectations than the rest of you speds.
