Final Fight 3 sucks fucking nuts. It sucks Yokozuna's fat ass. And Streets of Rage blow the piss out of Final Fight.

JAP version of Streets of Rage 3>>>>>> Final Fight as a franchise.

We'll fight under the monkey bars to settle this. We just need a retard to distract the teacher.
It's good on its own merits though. Just because JP SoR3 is better doesn't make FF3 bad.

SoRR blows them both the fuck out of the water but that doesn't mean either game sucks on their own.

Do it pussy, you won't.
Begone, Final Fight pleb.

After all these years, I still doubt that the reason Poison was made into a futa because of beating up women is bad, mkay. It is as dubious as Inafune was the creator of Megaman, as dubious as Final Fantasy was supposed to be Squaresoft's last game because they were going bankrupt (sure they were making mockbuster games, but their Rad Racer was really selling extremely well, actually sold more than Final Fantasy)

Also, I mean while in Renegade (Kunio kun in Japan) lets you beat up trannies, Double Dragon 1 has Linda, a female, not a tranny as a goon you beat up, and there's no controversy surrounding the game and it was released at least 2 years before Final Fight 1. Heck, even during the time Double Dragon 3 rolls around, which I think the same time around Final Fight 1, you beat up Daby, which is a female.

The Poison Issue conflates two distinct items:

1) The western SNES port of Final Fight removes Poison altogether and replaces her with a different, male character. Supposedly this was at Nintendo of America's request. It's not consistent with other games but that's censorship for you. (Incidentally the US version of Ninja Warriors Again also removes a female enemy. Maybe there are other cases)

2) In arcade Final Fight, Poison is supposed to be a tranny, or maybe just a tranny in the US version, citation: who fucking knows. Nothing in the game indicates that she's supposed to be a tranny, and the US arcade version doesn't change anything about her. I don't know exactly where the "Poison is a tranny" meme started. Different developers have said different things, at least one claiming she definitely wasn't meant to be a tranny at the time of the game's release.

So yeah you are correct that the official "common knowledge" factoid that she was made into a tranny because of American moral guardians makes no sense, especially since the original game doesn't even hint at it.

OBVIOUSLY I don't mind a lick it happened, but what caused the beat-em-up renaissance to occur? Just the right time and amount of nostalgia?

You know what else had a wrestling ring as part of a stage?

Final Fight. :smug:
Then -as you recuperate from being crippled after being cast down- you can hang out with Matt McMuscles and sperg about Final Fight games you absolute goober.

Well, not to mention the fact that Roxy is also in Final Fight and they left her as a female even after all these years and only made Poison the tranny. So, really, Capcom is really hiding the truth on why Poison was made to a tranny.

>inb4 but the Super Famicom Final Fight manual shows Poison as a tranny.

But this is on the Final Fight SFC manual, a year after the arcade release. there was no mention of Poison being a newhalf before this
Did you know Andre the Giant is also in Final Fight too?
yes, most of the enemies in Final Fight was inspired from wrestling characters. Roxy and Poison were inspired by a wrestler from GLOW Jeanne Basone

I believe the true reasons are masturbation-related

Two thoughts

1) Beat-em-ups used to be considered "outdated", but gaming has been stagnant so long that everything is old and outdated now so it doesn't matter. Dark forces seek to renew forgotten covenants, and primordial beasts reclaim the wilderness. Nothing is dead anymore, except rail shooters without furries.

2) Copying SoR4 to try and make SoR4 money, SoR4 itself being kind of a freak accident that came out of nowhere. And I really respect the way that game turned out, since I would wager the entire time people were whispering in their ears that it needed a 10-hour campaign, RPG elements, and an iframe dodge, and they told them all to get fucked and did the game correctly.

As a retrofag and beat em up enjoyer I consider the whole wave to mostly be a bust, the quality/quantity ratio and sheer decline from vintage standards is severe. It's not nearly this hard to find a decent 2D platformer or shmup or anything else really. I'm gonna try Teachery in Beatdown City and the Jay & Silent Bob game because I got them for free but I'm already fully committed to hating them. The Toxic Crusaders demo was good and I have medium hopes for Mayhem Brawler 2.

Night Slashers remake teaser, but it looks completely barebones:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=lKZcrdcktIMShit was announced on 2021, and in 2 years they only got the art style done:
Instead of waiting for this you should play Night Slashers X Rebalance.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=JALwfGj_-qI
I've been waiting for a proper remake and this is the best they could do? Jesus fucking christ. At least there's the OpenBOR game of it.

As to the whole Poison debate, I'd like to point out that Poison wasn't originally a tranny, Poison was a transvestite.

Dev is these aussies: https://www.artofplaygames.com/

Their whole resume is licensed browser games, including a licensed TMNT beatemup, it's what you'd expect: https://www.numuki.com/game/monsters-vs-mutants/

On one hand: lmao licensed flash game shovelware dev lol

otoh: looks like their big break into console games, good for them, should be on a different level than a flash game. I would guess that this game is something they tried to make happen and wanted to do, and The Phantom guys weren't shopping around for the lowest bidder to whore the license to. Also, they drew Diana with a huge rack, based.

I dunno, I'm not writing it off, has more potential than new Night Slashers or Rushing Beat. Screenshots look suspiciously like mock-ups though.

Maybe it's just me being an American, but I didn't think anybody really cared, let alone remembered who The Phantom was.

You have a point with female enemies in other games, but that doesn't mean capcom specifically didn't have issues with "violence towards women". Its possible that someone made a fuss so they just said, "fuck it, poison is a man".

I remember reading an old gaming magazine showing the difference between the Japanese and American versions of final fight. In one of the versions when poison was hit her (whatever) shirt would lift up exposing underboob. In the other version she(or not) was flat chested.
What I'm trying to say is, I really want to be right about this despite only having personal memories to go off of.

Another thing about specific rules: I was told (meaning its 100 percent correct) fei long isn't allowed in street fighter due to the Lee family not allowing it. However Marshall Law is in Tekken 8. Why just capcom and not namco?

Edit: reading this back I dont know what I was going for. I'll try to find that old magazine and look at some other sources.

He's not even like Shadow/Dick Tracy-tier. I didn't realize The Phantom was created in Australia, so that might make a difference.

I imagined it happening this way: they knew that a license, any license, would give their game a boost, and this is what they managed to dig up. But I dunno, maybe it's one of those deals like Asterix, Tintin etc where foreigners are actually into it.

Anyway, borrowing from another thread:

Jitsu Squad and Mighty Fight Federation are currently free on the Epic Games store.
I wanted to check that out, if only to complain about it. iirc it was $30 at some point which I think is more than SoR4 or TMNT:SR launched at, the nerve of it. Looks like Castle Crashers.
