You know Paris, France? In English, it's pronounced "Paris" but everyone else pronounces it without the "s" sound, like the French do. But with Venezia, everyone pronouces it the English way: "Venice". Like The Merchant of Venice or Death in Venice. WHY, THOUGH!? WHY ISN'T THE TITLE DEATH IN VENEZIA!? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? IT TAKES PLACE IN ITALY, SO USE THE ITALIAN WORD, DAMMIT! THAT SHIT PISSES ME OFF! BUNCH OF DUMBASSES!

I'm pretty sure they pronounce the "s" in Spanish too-maybe it's because other languages have the silent "S" and we don't?

Either that or we're more willing to use French pronunciations for French words because it was the language of the educated classes for a while in Europe while Italian never had that status (at least, not that i am aware of-pretty sure Latin had that position during the Renaissance at least).

I was taught french in school and I couldn't speak a single sentence of it now.

I know more Japanese just from manga and anime maybe if TinTin had more busty schoolgirls and giant mecha I'd have been fluent in french by now.
