Tangentially, I'm perfectly fine with a black British man playing James Bond.

As long as it's in a modern context, I don't really give a shit. Movie Bond is fairly removed from Ian Fleming's Bond. So, within reason, you can make some amendments...

Is there such a thing as women Bond fans? I feel like I've never heard a woman mention James Bond in my entire life.

*Maybe I've heard a woman video game geek talk about Goldeneye on Nintendo 64.
Sure, at least in the past James Bong had a massive female fanbase. However, what pulled them in was specifically that he was a charming womanizer. Plenty of women had a huge crush on Connery for example.

Not entirely sure how it looks in Current Year, but I'd imagine it still holds true to a certain extent.

Totally fine with that. Idris Elba was mooted at one point for the next Bond and he'd be spot on. Good actor, British, can play slightly posh which is what Bond should be (didn't like the class stuff they forced in in the Danial Craig films). Don't give a stuff if he's Black, just that he's British.

Elba would be fine. Though people have lamented he is too old now.

Funny, cause Roger Moore was 50 when he became Bond.

Plus, Elba is black: he ages slower than normal humans...

Unfortunately, it is very likely(whoever picked)will be neutered Bond.

They may, to counter that, go with Fleming's personality of Bond. Fleming's Bond is a disenfranchised imperialist assassin. He hates his job, and barely makes friends with anyone.

He isn't very suave and is a brute. Craig and Dalton played with it, but never fully committed to it...

People have no problem with violence, so they may elevate that until the "me too" stuff cycles out...

Got around to listening to the new theme, and man it's so limp. A depressed teenage girl whimpering about her boyfriend. Despite my soft spot for Writings On The Wall, You Know My Name still tops everything - doesn't hurt that it was the first time I properly sat down and watched a Bond film since, uh, Goldeneye?

Ashes from Deadpool 2 is a better song than whatever Billie whispers in her song.

Looks like Corona Chan has claimed her next victim

Guess you could say this is no time to die of the coronavirus. It's not like the sky is falling or anything, maybe they just don't want the spectre of coronavirus hanging over the movie. Just to give the audience that little quantum of solace. Because you might die of coronavirus tomorrow, but tomorrow never dies. What did Bond say when his doctor told him he had coronavirus. Doctor nooooooo

Most Bondish of all Bond songs has to be Goldfinger, belted out by Shirley Bassey - a woman with the figure of Mae West and the lungs of Brian Blessed. But my more personal favourite is The World is Not Enough by Shirley Manson. A slow-burning, spine-scratching number that I am happy to listen to independent of any movie.

Oof! I wish those jokes had been for your eyes only.

I agree on Goldfinger, but I think Skyfall was pretty good too. Then again it seemed kind of retro, like a homage to the oldies like Goldfinger.

Sky all was odd for me. The song itself wasn't bad, but for me it doesn't work unless paired with the visuals of the intro sequence.

The song for Spectre wasn't really bad but I did like the pornographic Hentai opening visuals.

Spectre was the last Bond film I'm likely to see, by the way. The movie put me off the franchise until there's some radical shake-up.

EDIT: Spectre's opening - watch with the sound off and it's good stuff.

Octopussy.

For those few holding out hope that this movie might be okay....

Plot twist: Black Bond is tasked with becoming president of the United States, spraytanes himself orange and campaigns as Trump with the help of Russian spy pretending to be Melenia. Trump/Bond then learns to tame his wild side while falling for his Russian partner throughout the film, with Hillary as the bond villain.

Yes, because the one thing you want in your escapist power fantasy movie is astute political commentary on why Current Republican President is a bad, bad man.

I wonder if all of those women clamoring for a black James Bond would shill just as loudly for it if the filmmakers brought back the sexual harassing Bond of the 1960's. They'd probably say it's allright since Black Bond is a victim of slavery and him creeping on white women is justice for hundreds of years of Caucasian Oppression.

To give credit where credit is due, at least an attempt is being made to integrate her as a character and she's not just a retcon reboot girl bond, like the Ghostbusters 2016 disaster.

However...I can almost guarantee she is going to be written as gay/bisexual for extra WOKE points, because straight women don't exist outside of the context of being socially conforming housewives.
