I'm sorry but you are gonna have to provide evidence it's flying off the shelf. Seems a bit like you're just bullshitting to get a reaction. If you can provide it I will believe it. But I am not hearing it being a massive success because we would know if it was.

But you are dead wrong about the last part. A lot of the people I know were very meh on the movie and admitted they only saw it because they had to before Endgame. Like, her movie somehow made more than Spiderman Homecoming. What was the difference with those two?

One was a standalone movie with somewhat light content with no major connections to any avenger movies coming up...

The other was a standalone that WAS supposedly attached to a major Avengers movie which was coming out a month afterwards...

Sorry. I don't believe you. I didn't see the level of hype Black Panther had either.
All I can tell you is shit was sold out.

And a lot of people I know loved the movie because it was a generic by the numbers Marvel super-hero flick and peer reviews on the internet have a similar reception to it.

Captain Marvel also didn't have the taint of two back to back previous film franchise failures bogging her down like Spider-Man did for what it's worth.

You don't have to believe me but the fact that the film made over a billion dollars and audience reception has been fairly positive kinda speaks for itself.

"with her just taking James Bond’s secret agent number after he retires from MI6, the report states. "

I'm not brushed up on my bond universe lore, but if she were qualified as an MI6 operative, wouldn't she have gotten another number to signify that? Because I'm damn sure there's also a 006 and 008 floating around somewhere in the mythos.
Why not have her become 009 or something? Have her be a new agent and have Bond be in a mentor role? Why does she have to *take* his place?
What a galaxybrain move.

Because it's more about getting rid of whitey and retconning him out of existence than actually creating something.

Just another salvo in the culture war to erase all white Europeans from their own history, art, and media. By briefly putting a black women in the movie they hope to soften the beachhead for the inevitable replacement of Bond with a black dude, retroactively. No character, historic or fictional, is allowed to be white or, Allah forbid, Christian in this modern hellscape that cries out for war.
Nigger it's movie stop sperging out so much holy shit.

@General Friendliness posted it for me. I was going to post that joke and was coming here to post it. The Critic was ahead of its time when it comes to things like this.

This is already marked to go to straight to it.

Remember when things could poke fun at political correctness and people wouldn't have a fucking meltdown over it?

Anyway, embarrassing confession time, when I was 16 in the year 2006 I entertained the idea of becoming a fan fiction writer, which never quite got off the ground because I realized anything I wrote would probably be terrible and I chose to spare the world of more bad fan fiction.

But one of the ideas I came up with was a "female James Bond"

Of course in my version she was hot, not unattractive like this actress, the reality of what they're doing with the franchise is now crazier than what my 16 year old teenage brain could come up with.

Sounds like something a clueless poster on /tv/ would say. A Generic by the numbers marvel movie isn't "loved" it's just seen as Okay. I heard others claim "EVERYONE LOVED IT!" before but they don't sound legitimate. If that was true we would still have people talking about it, but because it was so Meh people have mostly forgotten it by now. I didn't even hear people talk about memorable scenes in the movie much because of how bland it was. Even Black Panther had that. And to be fair, I'm sure some idiots "loved" it, but I think the general consensus is "It was okay, not that great"

And still no evidence that they are selling super well to the point they are out of stock.

"

Sorry what? Most MCU movies made a similar amount to Spiderman Homecoming around that point dude. You are clearly making shit up now.

The film again made over a billion dollars because they MARKETED IT as a PREQUEL to ENDGAME, WHICH EVERYONE was EXCITED to watch. You don't seem to really get how this works at all.

All I heard when the movie came out as a resounding "meh". Not hatred, just "It's okay just one of the weaker movies". I have not heard any excitement for it unlike with Black Panther and it seems more like obligation because people were super invested in the overarching story these movies were telling.

I get you want to play devil's advocate but come on man. At least provide evidence.

OK, here's one random person's opinion on James Bond 007:

1. James Bond is a person's name. 007 is his designation. I always figured James Bond was the same dude being played by different actors. If that is not supposed to be the deal they did a very, very bad job showing that.

2. If they wanna half ass retcon it so James Bond is a codename for all the various 007s, that's fine but they should actually do that, not just leave it up to headcanon.

3. Either way, James Bond is DEFINITELY a dude. You can tell because his name is James, a dude's name.

4. This movie will fail for numerous reasons but it will be blamed on misogynist trolls and alt right trump supporters.

I'm pretty sure Hollywood is so out of ideas that they're stealing fanfiction ones anyhow.

Judging them strictly by appearance, I say the one on the left could be a good writer, the one on the right is pushing a shit agenda and will play the race card so fast it'll make your head spin.

Girl, that one on the right's foundation clearly isn't covering up her bad skin.

I ask this question again:

Instead of just transforming old stuff and pissing people off, why not just create new ideas and characters for black, female, gay, and trans characters?

It couldn't be because the studios want to use brand recognition to bring eyeballs to the project and a overblown controversy to get people talking about it? Nah, that couldn't be it.

The look on Bond's face at the end sums it all up.

The "James Bond is a code name" theory has been bouncing around for a long time and they've contemplated making it official as far back as Die Another Day I believe.

But I always thought that idea was somewhat stupid, every actor should be his own continuity, it doesn't make any sense to say that the grittier Craig Bond is the same world as the sillier Connery, Moore and Brosnan movies.

I ask this question again:

It's all so cynical, if they were simply creating new ideas for black, female, gay, and trans characters then yeah, you would have to be kind of an asshole to complain about it, but that's not what's going on with something like this.
