I think I've said this a lot, but I don't bother myself with other people's choices. I hate when people say being gay isn't a choice, because it literally doesn't matter if it's a choice because ultimately adults get to choose what they do with their bodies. Trans people can choose what to do with their bodies just like breast implants, drinking, or getting tattoos. In understand the medical risks and I think children require more protection for this reason. As long as it's not confusing to the point that I have to ask someone what plurality they are that day it takes virtually zero effort to call someone by their preferred pronouns.
