We live in an Era where your personality and identity are now prepackaged for mass consumption, but you're only allowed to pick one.

People for some reason have been groomed into being and thinking in completely BLACK or WHITE terms. Grey is unthinkable , Shades of Gray is absolutely unforgivable and sprinkling some Red or Blue in there is total blasphemy.

For example : The Gender Fluidity and Stereotype Argument.
Not too long ago, people were fighting for "The right to ignore stereotypes" aka if a boy wanted to wear a dress, he wasn't gay or queer, he was just a little boy playing around.
Now, if a boy is playing in a dress, he must totally be a trans kid who needs his "egg" cracked.

A complete reversal of what people were fighting for, but if you try to bring this up to the gender-specials who weren't dripping down their mom's legs in the 90s, their brains shut down and switch to their preprogrammed modes and start spouting out catch phrases and scripts.

Another Example : Politics, specifically the children in cages at the borders.

The moment you mention that this has been going on since the 80s, people who use their politics as their religion? Their ears turn off. Their brains shut off. They quickly switch to FUCK BIDEN/OBAMA/TRUMP mode. Any problem that's not a clear REDvsBLUE issue, they don't want to hear. Any problem where both sides of the fence are to blame? In real life i've noticed that more and more femme gay men are transitioning or saying they're non-binary as well. The story is always the same - they grow up not liking sports or action figures, got picked on by their peers and a lot of the time are dismissed by their male family members which results in them feeling insecure and disconnected from their gender, resulting in them going and doing something extreme. I have one image of him with glasses saved (bottom center), from that instagram. For what it's worth, that insta was also much more composed than the reddit/4chan/twitter posts.

Edit: Now I'm not sure if those are real glasses or protective glasses for the game. Sorry.

Social media means you need to hype up your identity/"personal brand" in order for people to know who you are, as opposed to a real life setting where you are physically present and not just a name and profile pic on a screen. This is why extremely online people are more into lgbtabcdefgh shit while people with lives just ignore that shit.

Combine this with the fact that social media has absolutely no time constraints whereas pretty much everything else offline does, and you end up getting lazy lowlifes who can't be fucked to do anything else than sit around online or watch netflix all day. Netflix and the internet don't have any kind of built in impetus to make you want to get off them. There will always be more to browse or watch, available 24/7. If all you do is consume media, it naturally becomes your identity and lens through which to view the world.

The rise of fandom culture is honestly disturbing. It's a lot harder to become obsessed with a TV show if you only watch it one episode a week instead of binging it for several hours straight plus online discussion. Kids aren't learning to make art that reflects their own experiences, they're drawing troon versions of TV characters (digitally, of course. leaving the screen for a few hours to make a real painting is too much to handle)

All of this leads to this weird culture where people's identities are paramount, but they're not based in accomplishments or real personality traits, they're based in consumption and whatever labels you can put in your internet bio. Having very little interaction with the wider world means you quite literally don't have many real world experiences to base an identity on.

If you think that’s bad, there are people who build their entire identities around sexuality when their sexuality is asexual. Specifically defining their sexual identity in terms of what it is not and then making that their main defining feature. Compared to that, building one’s identity around troonism (something that touches every part of a person’s life, and has a 41% chance of ending it) makes at least a kind of sense.

With that being said though, a lot of these asexual identitarians end up trooning out a few years after finding their community, so maybe it’s more of a gateway identity.
