I see a highly-upvoted self-own like this one, and I immediately look for the selfies. She did not disappoint (except her parents):

“my health has deteriorated” yeah makes a lot of sense to take a lot of T and get a medically unnecessary hysterectomy in your twenties, then, when you’re already in a wheelchair:

Nope. The world was a vastly different place than what you read.25.
Hysterical troons also existed in the 90s.
Dana International for example.
The hons from Susan's were around in the 90s too.
Renée Richards was already pestering the world in the late 70s.
Then you have that British troon author who recently died and who went on an expedition to the Mount Everest and got to be invited by Elizabeth the II.
Can't remember his name.
I think they have always existed but that people couldn't quite spot them as easily and that they were not listened to back then because people didn't care what they had to say. Now they have media channels that listen to them.
"Mistaken for drag queen".Nope. The world was a vastly different place than what you read.
hysterical and crazy trannies were regulated to shock value rating news reports and Jenny Jones/Murray Povich for laughs. Trans men were almost unheard of and most transsexual women were actually hand in hand with gays in LGBT activism especially through the AIDS crisis. Most just transitioned and went on with their lives and It was rare to see one if you didn’t live in a major city with a large gay population and often mistaken them for drag queens when you did meet one which drag by then was already popularized by Rupaul, To Wong Foo and Pricllia queen of the desert so it wasn’t that big of a deal it just took a minute to wrap your head around.
the 90s were kind of an awesome time to be alive
They made attempts to pass and they weren't running around insisting that they were woman and needed to see vaginas in locker rooms."Mistaken for drag queen".
Did they look more obviously "dressed up" than now then?
Did trannies also die en masse from AIDS back then?
Well to be honest trans was such a rare thing and drag was so popular you just kind of assumed any man that dressed and appeared as a woman was drag queen. They didn’t flip out about it or lecture you about transsexualism. They just let you know through dressing and appearance during the day and for the most part people kinda got it after that. (And how they dressed varied. You had your wild nightclub trannies and your everyday ones that just dressed like a normal women being the goal was to integrate and not draw attention to themselves but most did genuinely put effort into passing)Did they look more obviously "dressed up" than now then?

Just because they were about doesn't mean they were anywhere near as prolific or annoying as the degenerate menace they are today. It has gotten much worse, by several orders of magnitude.25.

Were you able to openly tell them that they were dudes back then?Just because they were about doesn't mean they were anywhere near as prolific or annoying as the degenerate menace they are today. It has gotten much worse, by several orders of magnitude.
As Dear Leader Jersh pointed out in one of his streams a while back, in a Jersey Shore episode around about 2010 they were openly joking about how The Situation may or may not have fucked a tranny he met in the club, and they repeatedly used that word to describe the sus person, as well as all the hallmarks he/she was displaying (choker to cover the Adam's apple; gloves to hide the man hands etc).
They concluded with possibly the best advice Jersey Shore ever produced: "If you have to ask --if you even have to stop and think about it-- it's a tranny."
Try to imagine anything like that being aired today. It wouldn't happen; everyone involved would be shitcanned instantly and driven off social media before they could even get their dog into frame to film an apology video.
Yes you could. Were you able to openly tell them that they were dudes back then?
And indeed, today you would be pestered with all kinds of law suits if you called them tranny or male.
I do remember that episode though!Just because they were about doesn't mean they were anywhere near as prolific or annoying as the degenerate menace they are today. It has gotten much worse, by several orders of magnitude.

Office Ayden doesn't like other gay men referring to her as gurrrll or femininizing her "name" as a joke. Even though this is how gay men treat each other & should be a sign of acceptance that they're not treating you any differently because you're trans. Aydens want the gays from their yaoi novels and not actual gays.

Gay men judgemental? Shocked I tell you! I love they've gone the route the reason they don't fit in is because they're too masculine. These delusional girls
r/gaytransguys - Am I weird or invalid as a gay man because I don't like it when people call me "girrrrl"?

At most with old school trannies it just took a minute to wrap your head around when you met one.

I do agree with your point, BUT I also do disagree with you in some points and think Donuts&Frenchfries-lover has a point. Back then trannies were accepted because they were either much more sane and just wanted to live their life lowkey, or they were regulated off into their little subcultures to begin with. They were big part of the gay culture too, because most were actually LGB who wanted to present as opposite gender and engage in seemingly straight relationships. In gay culture it's actually blurred what constitutes as trans or simply being gender non-conforming. They could be criticised and made fun of. It was no big deal.Well to be honest trans was such a rare thing and drag was so popular you just kind of assumed any man that dressed and appeared as a woman was drag queen. And yes the AIDS crisis hit the trans community hard. Gays, lesbians and trans women worked equally together on fighting it. The division you see now in the LGBT with the trans was something you would NEVER imagine happening back then. That’s how tight the community was
