Discord was released in 2015, if someone is 30 now, they were 24/25 when Discord started to become popular. That is prime gaming demographics. The word man was originally gender neutral and meant something like "person" in modern English, the word "mankind" is a fossil of this. There were gender specific prefixes that were attached to man but only woman ended up surviving, man became gendered male instead of being neutral

The plurality strategy made me really worried about the competitive future of Oppression Olympics for a while. Exactly. Woman was developed from "wif" meaning female/woman, and "man" meaning human, i.e., female human.
Similarly, you may have seen troons and radfems espousing alternatives to the term "female" for an analogous misguided reason. "female" doesn't have a prefix, though the spelling might give the opposite impression. It comes from Latin "femina," which literally means "one who suckles," via old French "femelle." It was then changed so that the spelling would match the modern spelling of "male."
"Male" comes from Latin "masculus" meaning masculine, through old French "masle."
