The Antis have no vetting process. If you're willing to attack their enemies enough, they'll support you, which brings things about to areas of phenomenal weirdness like the Joshua Goldberg incident, where they'll scream about the GG side of his sperging whilst flat-out-ignoring the Anti side of his comings and goings. We've seen Brianna Wu go on about Jace for months now, and we've seen Quinn report the same tired disproven shit for months, so we know that the Antis, in general, are a facts-optional zone. Think of how often their favored news-sources openly fucking lie. Hell, here's one that stems from where I cut my political teeth because seriously, what the fuck:

Now, anyone who's even remotely familiar with GG knows about the huge number of con-artists in the midst of the Anti-GGers. We have everyone from Brianna Wu, to iHollaback (Heartmob, seven months after being Kickstarted, is dead in the water), to Anita herself (3 years and counting on Tropes vs Women, Anita!), to Alex Lifschitz and Randi Harper. One might think that the process of like-attracts-like is at work here, but I no longer believe that.

I think the simple fact that they don't ever verify anything and, moreover, believe the truth itself optional to be the culprit here. I remember when I was skirmishing with Pless on DailyKos, I refuted a point by one of her toadies with evidence, and the immediate response was said poster literally bragging that they were not going to check information that proved them wrong. They care more about winning meaningless "points with Social Justice" then they do being factually accurate, which is why they have a pathological inability to not fuck up.

I think that tells everything as to why we have this situation with Nyberg here.

It's pretty well established that anyone looking to make a quick buck or push an agenda will look into shilling to ideological movements. Rational thought and skepticism vanish almost immediately when radicalism enters the picture, so it's perfect for someone willing to fake it to move product. There is zero accountability, since they never suspect their own (even when there's perfectly good reason to) and no screening whatsoever. Anyone can set up a little venture printing cheap buttons with those genderspecial flags on them and turn them around for $5 a pop. You can sell cheap quartz crystals to the homeopathy/crystal healing nuts. You can hawk radfem merch with almost zero effort, provided the person selling it is a proud, liberated womyn (or at least appears to be). We've watched one con-artist after another make off like bandits because people can't be fucked to realize that "Listen and Believe" is the slogan of a person who's trying to sell you something.
And there will never be any real consequence because these kinds of things operate under a sort of caveat emptor policy: If you don't like who's ultimately profiting from it, you should have looked into it before you bought it. Best part is? Much of the rebellious little t-shirts and pins are manufactured by the same evil cishet capitalist pigs that manufacture almost everyone else.

Really we should have a GG board for discussing all the terrible people on both sides of this. Like really all I wanted was to just enjoy my games without having crazy politics shoved down my throat or have crazy journalist influencing developers by making it look like most gamers want these crazy things. I miss bitching about shitty dlc and drm *sigh*.

Maybe we need to word this in a way they can process. Children are very under privileged they can't do a lot of things adultkin can do like consent to things because they don't have age or experience privilege to know any better so no matter what if a non child advances any way sexually on a child it is rape.

Kinda like that old "Nacirema" story they tell kids in high school world history to introduce them to the idea that native cultures might not be so weird or backward as they think if they take a different perspective towards their own.

I disagree. For four specific reasons.

First, Gamergate itself is pretty much an issue that spreads lolcows, and they'll keep showing up in other threads via cross-contamination. You've seen how one side of GG in particular (the antis) are fucking lolcow singularities. They'll keep showing up outside of containment and then you'll get the situation where you're putting huge tracts of this forum in there.

Second, it'll be completely disproportionate. Pro-GG has, at its absolute spergiest, a few assholes like Lord Balderdash and friends. You'll have assholes like the sluthate posters showing up there periodically too, but that, like ADF or Chris supporting the Antis, isn't actual support and is pretty obviously just an attempt to get acceptance. Unlike Anti-GG, the Pro-GG side of the equation actually self-polices, doesn't tolerate things like flagrant lawbreaking, actually questions things, and actually gives a damn about facts. As such, the ratio of profitable pro-GG sperg to profitable anti-GG sperg is going to be astronomical. You're going to see fucking dozens of Antis in such a board before you see one quality GG sperg-out. Additionally, Pro-GG spergs, once exposed, usually burn themselves out quickly because GGers will generally mock the idiots in their midst. This results in them (usually) fucking off once a basic hazing goes down, at which point the thread ceases to bear fruit. Meanwhile Antis will dig in their heels and deny everything.

Third, it's important to note that the Gamergate-derived spergs we cover aren't specifically covered due to Gamergate, but rather because their Autism is so formidable that they're equally fascinating without. We have a thread on Wu because her incompetence transcends Gamergate as a whole - she's a Transwoman who denies being trans, in the face of all evidence, claims she has schooling she doesn't, training she doesn't, and believes Revolution 60 was a glorious success. Her riding Gamergate is only one part of the rich pastiche of stupid that is Brianna Wu. Similarly, we covered Chloe Sagal not because of Gamergate, but because Chloe was an abusive nutbar who threatened suicide more often than ADF and ran an Indiegogo scam. This is true of Sarah Nyberg and her defenders as well, the focus is less on the Antis themselves and more how they're all closing ranks to defend a pedophile. You can't divorce Gamergate from the above, but they're interesting for more than Gamergate.

Fourth, and most critically? The "war" of Gamergate is pretty much over. It ended months ago when the FTC forced disclosure for Native Advertisements and conflicts-of-interest. After the SPJ, even fucking Polygon dropped the Gamergate=Harassment narrative. The damage done to the Antis who posted the "Gamers are dead" barrage was more personal gratification on their part, but they got that too. The long and short of this is that the battle ended - and the Antis lost. Take a look at the likes of those defending Butts right now and ask one, single question:
What career would these people have without Gamergate?
From Wu to Lifschitz, from Nyberg to Sarkeesian, from Galvarez to Gallant, every single one of these people need Gamergate to stay relevant, but Gamergate as an activist movement's been gone for almost two months. It may show up when shit happens, but the fact of the matter is that Gamergate's moved on to watchdog, and with it, the only thing really left is to cover actual happenings as they show up and watch the Antis fucking implode - which they will, because again, their side has no vetting process and just defended a pedophile.
