I worked at a Best Buy in the mid-to-late aughts. At the time the employee discount was cost plus I believe 5%. This meant you’d get things like their wildly price-jacked cables for absolute dirt but for something like a game system the savings would have been negligible.

NB: I also didn’t work in the same state as Phil, and cannot recall if this was a national store policy or not.

And that's with you being a detractor.

Can you imagine being a legitimate Phil fan? You spend some of your hard-earned cash helping Phil because he keeps telling you that he's in heavy distress and that it is only temporary and everything should go back to normal next week.

You then have some personal issues (that could have been avoided by you having saved the money you spent on Phil). You stay away from the Snortsphere because you have to work overtime to get over your financial issues.

You come back a month later, and the first thing you hear during Phil's prestream is "Just this one more hurdle this week and we should be good from now on, guys, but I really need tips right now!".

It's no wonder that Phil's fans are all retarded. Any normal person who ever supported Phil has been long gone.
 
Why does DSP call his new chair an office chair? Is this just a weird pride thing where he's shunned gamer chairs before so he doesn't want to look like one of the "sheep" he complains about?
An office chair without wheels, that has cup holders and a reclining feature, with the aesthetics of a lazy boy.

It's a gaming chair, it's such a gaming chair that he even went on about how good the lumbar support is, like every other gaymer chair advertisement when all of them just use the same shitty back pillow. He could have bought an Autonomous Ergochair brand new for the same price as he spent on this gamer chair.

Because Phil paid $400-450 discussed laboriously with the kind contributor that gifted him the chair after telling Phil "Wow, everyone else is helping you Phil, I really want to also!".

And it's a chair in his office, so it's an office chair.

Of course, it's a gaming chair. Just look at it.

I think it’s also to create a false dichotomy between him and other streamers. Phil does or acquires something, it was a wise decision based on maturity. Streamer X who happens to be ten years younger than Phil, by several degrees of magnitude more successful by numerous metrics, and with dyed hair does or acquires the same thing they’re a trend-chasing muppet who’s just tying to appeal to ten year olds.

And yes, it’s a gaming chair. Look at its upholstery pattern. It might as well have go-faster stripes. He ought to be embarrassed but I think he’s invulnerable to such things, or at least pretends he is.

This also makes his story so unbelievable. If he and his mysterious benefactor had actually gone back and forth to discuss which chair to buy, they would've picked literally any other chair.
Can't wait for it to break and get memory holed and Phil to start LIMBing people who ask what happened to his mature office chair.

And for this “jahb” he claims to care about so much he refuses to innovate or do literally anything except roll out of bed, walk two steps to his “office” and beg. Is that PC the “pahsitive fans” bought for him still collecting dust? Last I kept up he was begging for a new xbox.

A solid game like Hades is wasted on a simpleton like Phil. Assuming he doesn’t wagequit, I expect him to suck hard enough that that he’ll grind the mirror abilities all the way to fated persuasion (for those who haven’t played Hades this is a permanent ability that allows you to reroll the run-specific upgrades that the various gods and the hammers provide you, making it significantly more likely for you to get the boons you want) and then once he has that I expect chat to lead him to one of the many brain dead easy builds that’ll allow him to make mincemeat of the final boss. Then Phil will go for that same exact build 9 more times. Roll credits, next game.

Ugh, even just imagining it it sounds really boring. We may get some salt early but once Phil figures out how to cheese it he’ll be an absolute bore as usual.

The great irony of all this was his rant a month ago about how he doesn't have a desk because "professional setups" are sellouts and that he only plays games casually so he doesn't need "two monitors."

It’s that special brand of insanity where every time something comes out of his mouth the Poe’s Law Alarm goes off and it’s gotten so bad now that I’ll just get up and take a dump before I can be bothered to reset it.
