Obama was a disappointment for progressives but the aura of first black president stopped people from outright turning on him as a failure (tbf its only been in recent years that conservatives have fully turned on Bush because of his reputation immediately after 9/11). There's definitely a lot of underlying progressive resentment bubbling under the surface but for now going all in on wokeshit seems to have placated them much in the same way fundieshit stopped conservative resentment from boiling over for a while.

You're not wrong on the oil and petro thing, but I guess I don't really see "we have enough moderately affordable oil for 100 years based on these projections" as a huge win. In fact, that prediction seems to foreshadow a massive technological upset, if not a collapse, in a relatively short amount of time.
The 20th century called, they're in desperate need of techno-utopian fiction authors. I dunno what planet you're on but "diminishing returns" has been the watchword for a while now, though it's only recently become difficult to hide the fact that no, technology won't just magically transcend all physical barriers, and more importantly, high technology seems to have a degenerative effect on humans (and our primitive humanoid brethren).
